My primary assignEr for this past fall's football season was a very nice guy. I only met him once or twice at meetings, as usually we'd talk on the phone if need be, and he'd have all correspondence through the crew chief of my crew.

I knew he was a nice guy mostly from things my crew said, plus what correspondence I did have with him was very friendly and kind.

Today, I walk into my first hour class, Honors Chemistry, and we have a substitute teacher... I didn't really look at him or notice his name, which he had written on the board. Class starts, and he gives us some lame assignment that my regular teacher had left us... I'm just doing my work when I hear some chit chat from the front of the classroom.

Substitute to some girls wearing their jersey: "Is there a game tonight girls?"

One of the girls: "Yea... Do I recognize you?"

Substitute: "I've refereed a couple of your games."

I'm obviously all attentive now.

As we turn in our papers and the class is about to end, I walk to the front and ask him how long he's been a referee for. He tells me that this is his 42nd year doing basketball with the MHSAA. :wow:

I tell him I'm in my 5th year, my 1st in the MHSAA. I ask if he knows the crew chief I work most for (he's fairly well known around MHSAA)... He says "Oh yeah! Real well!"... Then he pauses and says... "Weren't you one of my referees in the NOCOA?"... I'm kind of surprised, but I look up at the board, and see his name written down... the name of my assignEr!

Neither of us had realized it... he had only looked at my last name when taking attendence, and I had never looked at the board!

It was pretty cool. Especially since he mentioned how well behaved our class was. :angel4:

I'm not thinking an Honor's Chemistry class has to many trouble makers, besides yourself of course, in it to get to out of control.  I mean we all know that Umpires and Referee's are just a bunch of :fuel::stir
