Like RichMSN said, I didn't see it put back in play and there was no batter in the box. And the evidence is gone.

They tell you in school that in order to put the ball in play you have to have 8 defensive players in fair territory, batter in the box, and the catcher ready to go. When I get into trouble I always take a breathe and ask myself " how did we handle this in school?" Blake looked a little confused on this.

5.11 After the ball is dead, play shall be resumed when the pitcher takes his place on the

pitcher’s plate with a new ball or the same ball in his possession and the plate umpire calls

“Play.†The plate umpire shall call “Play†as soon as the pitcher takes his place on his plate

with the ball in his possession.

Am I missing something? seems to me that the red in your response is wisdom for game management and not getting things messed up, but that the only requirement is that the pitcher have the ball on the mound. Wisdom that is not necessarily applicable if the ball is being put in play for purposes of an appeal. (I am, of course, ready to be corrected on this.)
