My son and I are working a 18u rec league game played under Fed rules. Late in the game with HT trailing by a few runs, I get his batter on a check swing that ends the inning. Head coach walking back the dugout from 1st base side starts to argue the check swing as he is walking by me. I tell him I had him swinging. He says "YOU KNOW HE DIDN'T GO!". He gets a "that's enough" from me. He then brings up a banger call from earlier that inning, "HE DIDNT GO AND YA"LL MISSED THE CALL AT FIRST TOO!". One more "that's enough" from me. He yelled something else about the check swing from in front of his dugout and i dumped him.

I thought I gave him one too many warnings.

Yeah, to me with "you know he didn't go" he gets about one word after that, because he's calling me cheater. If he says, "come on, he didn't go, blue" I might just go with "we're not talking about balls and strikes today, Bill" and then a "that's enough" if he continues. But to me, the whole "you know" part questions my integrity so the rope is pretty short after that.

All that said (and it's easy to say this from behind a CPU not on the field), once you drop "that's enough" he has to go if he continues, so don't use it unless you are prepared to toss with the next word.

I would sy you went 1 warning too far personally, nothing good ever comes from having to repeat yourself more than once to someone who obviously is not listening. Having said that the important thing is that you dumped him. At many of the levels I do after I give that second warning I will physically turn and walk away, I find it makes a very clear point that the discussion is over and a lot of times they drop it, if begrudgingly.... if they don't they were only out there looking to be tossed anyhow.
