I've had my plate shoes since the spring and have done close to 70 games in them. I've always left the laces how they were when I got them, with the 'top row' of laces visible above the armor plate. Today after I cleaned them I re-did the lacing a bit so that the laces ran directly from the eyelets at the top of the plate to the top set of shoe eyelets. This seemed to pull the plate up a bit snugger (previously it had seemed to slide down a bit towards the toe of the shoe). The only real difference I noticed was that the tied now laces sit over the top of the plate and seem to hold it in place a bit tighter than it was.

Has anyone else done this to pull the plate up a bit? It seems to be OK and I've got 2 games tomorrow night so I will try them out. If for some reason there's any issue with this I can always re-lace them very quickly between innings or games. Just wasn't sure if the shoes came laced how they were to allow some movement in the armor plate when running.

I just lace them up as with any shoe.

Once the laces are pulled tight, instead of tieing them they go thru the eyelets of the plate first and then tired.
