At first I was thinking it would've given him a better angle on a potential pulled foot but after watching it a few more times, it seems his original position would've been sufficient. He felt a need to adjust, probably based upon how the throw was read. I have no idea if it was really necessary or not though.

There was a play earlier in this game that involved a tag at 1B where he took a nice read step and lean to see the swipe tag. Great mechanics on that one. I didn't see the above play.
