More fun with 11U tournaments......

I'm PU, R3, Batter squares and the pitch is coming inside.... Batter pulls the bat back and the catcher just whiffs it! Not even close to catching it! Ball hits my left leg on my shin guard and bounces away.... R3 races home and scores with no play.

Defensive coach comes out to me "Wasn't that a foul ball?" I say "No". Coach says "Yes it was, I heard it hit the bat". I tell him "Coach, it hit me!". Coach says "Oh, sorry.... <Catcher> you need to catch the ball!"

I had a very similar thing happen a couple weeks ago. When I snapped that it hit me, not the bat, the coach just said smugly, "I knew it hit something"...

I can understand that one, especially if it's a check swing or close pitch in the dirt. I've had shots off the shin guards that, if they hit just right, sound an awful like a bat. Esp the BBCOR bats that don't have the 'ping' of an aluminum bat.

In rec ball I am used to variations of this at least a couple times a week. Had a pitch that caught me on the bicep, coach claims it hit his batter. I was tempted to show him the seam marks on my arm, instead I just shook my head no - sometimes it's not worth the words...
