Quicky guys, ..my rat friend came back from a tourney and he always comes to me first thing in the morning "HEY JEFF, GET THIS.....

Anyhow, D3k, ball hits the catchers mit, then the batter 'in the box' and deflects off his leg as he starts to leave the box and goes toward the dugout on the 3rd base side .....

Nothing, right? Play on, live ball?

7.09 It is interference by a batter or a runner when—

(a) After a third strike he hinders the catcher in his attempt to field the ball;

BUT, ..that's not what happened ....

I am with you. Live Ball, Play on. I see it as no difference than ricocheting off the umpire. The catcher had his chance and muffed it.

Play: 1B unoccupied or 2 out. D3K. BR unintentionally kicks, touches, or otherwise deflects the pitched ball that was not caught. F2 is unable to make a play.

Ruling: If this occurs in the vicinity of HP, the ball is alive and in play. However, if this occurs up the 1B line (where the BR has had time to avoid the ball), INT is called, BR declared out, and runners return to base occupied at TOP.

LOL, I know, that's funny! He's a good guy really, ....he's an assistant coach who knows the game actually, and likes to understand the rules. He usually comes to me with wierd stuff that happens and usually states something about the rule that he 'thinks' applies, and usually he's pretty good ...so, he's not REALLY a rat:D

I have a co-worker who is a coach and every time he has a game he will come in asking me a question about a ruling.

Then after I explain the ruling hes like "Dang, the Umpire had it right!"

He know I know rules pretty well cause he always seems me looking at the rule book and he seem me online on this Forum.

My boss coaches LL and every morning after a game he talks to me about what he has happened in his games. Sometimes he asked if an umpire is in the right position on the field or about a ruling. Most of the times the umpires are right. He tells me he has learned to respect the umpires through me, not sure what that really means though. It is fun to let him know that the umpires are right ALOT more than the rats
