Tomorrow is my first HS games since getting back into umpiring last year after a length hiatus. JV twin bill and I have the dish for the opener. Tomorrow is also meeting night for our association in the same town as the games...guess where the meeting will probably be...

I had a game yesterday were I actually maybe took too long to call a strike. The pitch came in and for some reason it actually froze me. and it took me maybe 3-4 seconds to process the pitch over again. The catcher had just release the ball back to the pitcher when I made the strike call.

A fan in the stands yelled out: "How long can he take to make a call!!!!"

My plate game went very well. I started out a little fast, but got settled in and slowed things down. Got all my rotations and the Area Rep for our Association was there and video taped a couple of innings so I will get to review that to see if I did as well as I thought...

Second game was just awful baseball. I was U1 with very little happening in the field. I just concentrated on being where I needed to be. Luckily it got dark after 3 1/2 and we were done.

More games next week and then the floodgates will open.

Please dont say floodgates. Im in Portland, OR and we are three weeks into the HS season (with no games for spring break this week). March was one of the wettest on record. Before last Tuesday where i actually got in a whole game, I had FIVE outs this season. I have three weeks to get 9 games in to qualify for playoffs... I dont know if I am going to make it or not.
