I am taking this years NFHS exam and am a little tripped on the intentional drop rule applied in FED... I think, or am maby over thinking it.

Basiclly, is it correct that with runners in a non-forced positions on base an intentional drop on an infield fly still results in a dead ball out on the hitter?

In a nonforced situation, an intentionally dropped ball is not a violation. If it is a non IFF situation but still a force involved, it is a dead ball and BR is out. In an IFF situation the ball stays alive, BR is still out.

If you ask yourself whats the purpose of the rule you will find the answer to your question.

Just think...prevent a cheap double play or a defense wanting to exchange runners...in the old days....a defense might want to exchange Cecil Fielder for Ricky Henderson if there was no such thing as an intentional drop. Now, there are ways a defense can legally do that...but that's not your question.
