Ok, ...get this!

I'm PU, ... 2 outs, R2, top of 7, home team up by 6 or 8 runs .....

Pitcher goes for a pick-off at second for some reason:HS, and as R2 goes back to 2nd, the pick-off attempt drills him in the back and the ball deflects into shallow left.

F5 picks up the ball, tosses to F6, ....VCs are yelling "get on the bag Jimmy, get on the bag" ....as the kid wriths in pain next to 2nd, but OFF the bag.

F6 leans down and tags him, ...my partner rings him up,...ballgame!

Well,...the HOME COACH argues! "Why blue, how can you call that?" My partner just looks dumbfounded at him and says, ...."it is what it is coach, it's a live ball." Then a few chirps from behind the backstop, ..."wow, that's not cool blue....etc...etc..."

Hey, sorry the kids hurt, but ....I'm not sorry he's out, ...that's the game, right?!

The cool thing, .......VC comes on to the field to see his player as we're walking off and says, ..."blue, that's the right call guys, don't worry about it"

WIERD ending!

It sucks seeing someone get hurt, but what can you do about it. I've got a live ball and a good call in my book.

Agreed, ...on all accounts:hi5:

Sometimes the right thing isn't the popular one.

Yep!!!!

I just find it very, very strange that the HOME coach, who is up by a bunch of runs, argues when he just got the final out to end the game and give him a win :

I had one to end an inning last night. I'm PU working solo in LLSB Minors. BR hits ball to outfield, touches 1B and heads to 2B. I have followed her up the line and then proceed into the area between 1B and the circle. She touches 2B and takes about 2 steps off the bag as the throw comes in to F4. Alert F4 tags her and I ring her up. As the 1B coach walks by on his way back to the dugout he gives me a couple of claps and says good call blue.

It is very seldom you get one of those, especially after you have just called his player out.

I had a good one the other day, the 2 best teams in the local travel league division are squaring off at the 12u age group. The first 5 1/2 innings get done in 1 hr. 8 min. :HD::2cents:B)B):wow: Go to the bottom of 6. score is 0-0. Home team comes up, takes the lead by 3, so go to top 7, 3-0 home team leading, visiting team comes up, gets 2 quick outs, loads the bases on 2 infield errors, and then this kid, who's all of 4 ft. nothing, and 60 lbs soaking wet, jacks one over the left field wall, which is 220 ft. I sit there, jaw on the ground, team swarms the kid, they're happy, we continue, they finish the inning out. middle of the 7th, 4-3 visitors. Home team comes up, walks the bases loaded on 12 straight pitches. coach comes out, puts in new f1. infield in, ground ball to f6, bobbles it, throw to home is late, tie game. 2 quick ground outs to f5, who takes it home, and now we have bases loaded, 2 out, tie game. HT's bottom of the line-up is now up, they were a combined 0 for 11 on the day. Kid comes up, 2 quick strikes, 3rd pitch comes in. drills the kid in the back, brings home the winning run!

Now here's where it gets REALLY weird. I have these same teams 2 days later, it's the EXACT same situation, except score was 8-8 going into bottom 6(all previous runs scored in the first 2 innings). Home team takes lead in bottom 6, visitors rally, take lead by 1 in top 7. Same kid who got plunked the last game, comes to the plate, 2 out, r1 and r2, kid hits a single to right center, lead runner scores easily, f9 gets to the ball as trail runner is halfway between 2nd and 3rd, he throws a bullet to the cut-off, so I'm figuring they're going to hold the runner at third...WRONG, I see this guy giving him the windmill to go home, I'm thinking o SH*#, couldn't you just hold him, now we're going to extras....WRONG AGAIN...the cutoff sailed the catcher by about 50 feet....he threw it over a 25 foot high backstop 45 feet behind home plate!!!!! :wow:

another walk-off for the same kid...whatta few days that was.

My game sunday went extra innings. Strangely enough each game I've worked with this partner has gone extra. The last one went 14 in 95+ degree heat. I have that partner again next Sunday.

As we enter the 9th all knotted up the catcher for the home team who had been friendly all day sneers and says, "Don't you wish you'd gotten that call right in the 3rd? We wouldn't be here."

"What the hell are you talking about me missing a call in the 3rd?"

"With a full count you walked their guy who scored."

Our conversation ended there. But in the bottom of the 9th a guy who had struck out every other at bat came up and I'm already thinking we're going to the 10th. But the guy jacked one, Thank goodness.
