I would love to see somebody write an article about baseball announcers not knowing the rules, but there are probably no writers on the national stage who know that their comrades are blabbering idiots.

FOX uses Pereira as their "NFL Officiating Guru" - fans are encouraged to send e-mails, texts, or tweets to him regarding controversial plays / situations. He also writes a column on FOX's website, obviously.

Likewise, TSN (Canada's ESPN) has a former NHL referee (Kerry Fraser) blogging on their website discussing controversial plays and responding to fans' e-mails. Additionally, there was a play during a game recently where to the casual fan, it seemed the referee over-penalized a player for a seemingly innocent hit, assessing a game misconduct when both announcers and myself thought at most, a two minute penalty was warranted. Within minutes, Fraser had fired off an e-mail to the TV crew explaining that because while relatively harmless, the hit caused injury to the player's face, an automatic GM was to be assessed.

It is only a matter of time until this becomes something we see in the baseball world, which will only serve as a good thing with regard to the casual fan's perception of us all.

If this actually reaches MLB, someone will spend their entire day correcting Tim He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. The next rule he gets right very well may be his first.
