From 0730 AM Sat 10/22 till 930 PM Sun 10/23 I worked 11 games.

7 were 13U Travel Ball - 1 Man

2 were 12U Travel Ball - 1 Man

1 Adult AAA Game - 2 man Bases

1 Adult Wood Bat game - 2 Man Plate.

Sunday evening I was working with some pain between my shoulder blades.

SWMBO was nice enough to massage most of the knot out.

I then worked a LL Jr game on Mon evening 10/23 with SDix on the bases while I worked the plate.

I got home, showered and laid down in bed to relax.

15 minutes later I couldn't move, cough or sneeze without having pain in my upper left chest.

I took Ibuprofen and pretty much laid around in bed till late Tuesday afternoon.

At that time SWAMBO said enough!!!! Get your shoes on You are going in to see a doctor now.

She took me into Urgent Care and Doctor gave me a muscle relaxer shot in the hip and prescribed more Ibuprofen, muscle relaxer and norco for the pain.

Recommended I follow up with my doctor in a few days if there was no improvement.

The next evening, we notice I have blisters forming on my feet and palms of my hands.

Thinking it may be a reaction to one of the drugs we return to Urgent Care.

So, very intelligent doctor says I have shingles and prescribes a medicine for that.

The next morning I read the information sheet he gave us on shingles and it isn't even close to what I have.

I call the clinic and try to get a appointment with my Primary Doctor.

He is not available so they schedule me with another doctor.

He does a examination and says point blank "I hate Urgent Care. If they did a decent exam they would have know you have a pinched nerve."

He doubles the muscle relaxer and norco dosage, gives me a cortisone shot in my shoulder and says to come back again monday to see my primary doctor and sets up the appointment.

I was feeling enough relief on Sunday and tried to work my 2 Adult games.

Luckily while talking to my partner Saturday he said he would do both plates.

Well working the bases weren't much easier.

Pain was constant but bearable.

Once in C a ground ball was hit towards me and as I pivoted out of the way and started to loudly drop F Bombs and a few other words.

But I sucked it up and got through the games.

Oh.....SWMBO drove me to and from the games as she would not let me drive on the medication I was on.

Monday I kept my appointment with my doctor and he had me start a steroid treatment plan.

I asked about physical therapy or chiropractic treatment.

He says we can't do anything until your pain free.....lol

That afternoon I located a Chiropractor and went in.

He adjusted my neck, lower back and some ribs.

Pain was almost completely gone.

He said it may take 1 to 3 more treatments to resolve the problem.

Late Wednesday the pain started to return and I went back Thursday morning for another adjustment.

At this time I am feeling pretty good with minimal pain.

I do have to complete the steroid treatment over the next 12 days and will probably get another adjustment on this coming Monday.

The side effects of the steroids has been a little weird.

Turned off TV and went to sleep 3 minutes before the alarm went off this morning and it was time to get up and get our girls off to school.

Swmbo said stay in bed I know you just went to sleep.

Haven't decided if I will try to work this Sunday yet.

We are starting the playoffs for the Adult League and hate to miss it.

We may have rain showers as we had today and they may be rain outs.

Those of you that know me, know I am a work hound.

I am at about 265 games for the year.

I am even scheduled for 5 games on 12/10 and 12/11 (Yea another 10 games in 36 hours) for a fund raiser.

This has been one of the most annoying injuries / medical problems I have had umpiring.

I think the moral of this story is, always remember that Doctors practice medicine every day.

But when we step on the field as Umpires we are expected to be right on every call.

Shouldn't we expect the same from our Doctors.:jerkit:

Sorry if this rambled...SWMBO says the steroids are making me goofy also and she and my mother in law are enjoying the occasional comedy sessions.

Lou, my uncle went through something similiar to you a few years back, and it only truly goes away with rest. Now I know you love the game, but when your body starts talking this loudly you need to listen to it. I've seen and been on your side of the coin when it comes to injuries holding you back. Rest, and some much deserved time away from the game is the best thing right now. It's suppose to rain tomorrow, and next weekend as well. Take this as a sign and give your body the much needed rest it needs.

I feel for you and I alsorelate to your struggle at one of the doc in a box places. I've had some "interesting" experiences there to the point I will not go to those.

Get better first, baseball will be there waiting for you when you can make it back.
