12U game...Plate ump calls an obvious to me check swing, "Yes, he went..STRIKE!" :big_no Not even close to me...the bat never even left the shoulder. Coach wants an appeal. Plate guy will not grant request, said it was his call, he saw it. After some bantering by coaches and crowd, he gives into the critics, and points to me. What should I have said? Is there an unspoken rule among umpires about not throwing someone under the bus, or do you "get it right"? Am I doomed either way?

He called a strike...There is no appeal situation here:crazy:

Talk about throwing someone under the bus:HS

Unles you are playing under some other rule set. there is no appeal on a check swing strike call A team can only appeal a check swing called a ball. You were put in a situation you should have never been put in. Both the PU and the complaining coaches need to learn that

Once he called it a strike, it's a strike period. I would throw him under the bus. He should know this and explained thusly. He tells the coach that it is a strike and not appealable and it is time to paly baseball. At that point either invoke 11.03g or toss him.

For the newer guys 11.03g states,"Go away coach, you are pissing me off." If 11.03g doesn't work then explain his new vantage point is far far away. I had it happen last year and I told him it was unappealable.

I had a cadet do this to me earlier this year. He calls a strike and then points to me in A. I wouldn't respond...and then explained the rule in between innings. He then told me that he revresed the call any way because he didn't mean to call it a strike!
