How would you have handled this.

JV game sometime in the middle innings. The catcher changes positions and the 1st base coach yell "low away", next pitch, he yells out location again. OP calls time and asks me to make him stop. I said I didn't know of any rule he was violating, other than it being in poor taste. I conferred with my partner to make sure, he had nothing.

I started the game again and the same thing happens. Now the defensive coach is yelling at the 1st base coach. And they're now giving it to each other and things start getting a bit out of hand calling each other jerks and more.

I call time and tell them there is not going to be any more cross talk or they will have plenty of opportunity to discuss it in the parking lot.

Are you sure the coach knew where his catcher was setting up? You just can't tell from the dugout where a pitch or a catcher is relative to in and out. Maybe coach thought his catcher was setting up with his left leg behind the point of the plate when F2 was really setting up with his left leg behind the outside corner. Maybe they were just trying to get you to call strikes on pitches off the plate. Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk

I would probably inform (warn) the coach that what he is doing, I consider unsportsmanlike conduct and will eject him if he doesn't stop. This is a case where I think Rule 10.1.1 can be applied.

There are a couple of rules that you can throw at the coach at first. You can not, nonetheless eject or call anyone out.

Read this. This may work.

4.06 No manager, coach or player shall at any time, whether from the bench or playing field or elsewhere....

(2) use language which will in any way refer to or reflect upon opposing players, manager, coach, ann umpire or spectators.

That one may not be aggresive enough but I may work something out in your head.

The other one is.....

9.01 © Each umpire has the authority to rule on any point not specifically covered in these rules.

Thsi one may help out a little.

This is definitly unsportsmanlike, and therefore not tolerated. Coaches get one warning and if they do not comply, they can take it in the parking lot.

I had a similar situation two years ago in fall ball where two coaches on the same team were yelling at eachother! I was hoping it would die off, but it went on for a good two minutes. After that, I got fed up, and I told them once they are ready to continue, we can continue. I got my partner and we both walked to right field and waited for them. They still continued on for another minute or so, but after that it was silent the rest of the game.

9.01.c -- "The Universal Equalizer"

And might I add, God bless you, Vito1! You play the game like I do. As the umpire in "Field of Dreams" said when the batter asked him about a warning for the pitcher throwing at his head, "Be careful you don't get killed."
