Does anyone recognize what shin guards those are?

These kind don't have that opening between the top of the shin and the knee cap.

I realize it looks as though there's an opening there, but the kneecap plate floats -(where the 'W' is located) , and it can be set to where that area is covered.

They do look like the Davis guards. Not enough protection for me. That is why I were the Wilson triple knee pictured above.

Ya know when you're sitting on the doctor's exam table, and he whacks your knees with that little hammer, and your feet go flying? THAT'S where he got clocked. That bundle of tendons and nerves just below the kneecap.

A lesson to us all. Go back and examine your gear when you're in your stance. Get in front of that mirror, and look for holes in your armor. When you drop in, is there a gap at that spot? Is your chest protector high enough, and does it cover all your ribs? Do your shin guards rotate outward? Is your cup in the proper position? Is there a big gap between your CP and your mask? How big is the gap between your shinguard and the top of your plate shoes?

You can have the best gear money can buy, but if it's not the size, or positioned correctly, it's no good. But sometimes, @#$% happens.

And yeah, those are Davis shins, you can tell by the straps. And they do have have that gap when you flex them. Not much of one, but it's there. That gap is right where your doctor takes his hammer to you . Youch!

Ya know, I was wrong. My older Davis shin guards have no gap when flexed. They're built just like my Bauer hockey official shins, that are my primary.

They do hinge at that spot, but I'm guessing that it was a percussive shot, as opposed to a direct hit. That particular area is quite sensitive, as those little hammers will show you in the doctor's office. Amplify that little ding that your doctor gives you times 100. I'm shocked he didn't kick the catcher into centerfield.

Boing!
