Pitcher substitution rule

I have looked and looked and cannot find the answer to this one. I know a F1 can leave the mound to a defensive position, and return to the mound once during the same inning. But how about this one? Starting F1 is pulled from mound in Inn. 2 , goes to another def. position, 3 or 4 innings later the skipper wants to bring him back in to pitch? The original F1 never left the game.

Would it make a difference if:

A. The current batter has a 3 - 1 count or

B. It is not the start of a new inning.

It makes no difference, as long as he stayed on the field he can come back in at any point in the inning or count.

Its generally allowed but it might depend on the rules you are playing with and why the pitcher was removed. For example, if this was pro rules and the pitcher was removed on the second visit in the inning, then by rule the pitcher needs to be removed from the game but most ameteur leagues modify the rule so the pitcher can go to a different defensive position but cant return. HS rules has similar restrictions if the pitcher is removed because of visits or injury ect.

Plus Im glad you looked before asking and as one umpire told me if its not listed as illegal then its legal so if you cant find it and you didnt miss it theres your answer.
