what do we do with a runner obstructed going back to a base with a play being made (i.e pickoff?) in litttle league baseball? anyone know about LL softball? how about OBR? and, while i think im good with FED

In LL and OBR and NCAA if a play is being made on a runner and he's obstruced you call time immediately and award a minimum of the next base beyond the one last touched. It does NOT matter which direction the runner is going. If he was between 1st and 2nd he gets 2nd. If between 2nd and 3rd he gets 3B. etc etc etc If no play is being made on the obstructed runner you let the play continue and after the action stops you award what IF ANY, bases to the runner. You decide where the runner could get if not obstructed and if he's beyond that he can be out.

In FED an obstructed runner ALWAYS gets at least one base.

LL softball is the same as LL baseball.

I can't speak for Little League, but Fed doesn't have that distinction.

It's dependent on how the rules are written and interpreted.

If it's LL then you cannot block the base at all until you have possession of the ball so that's how you call it in LL.

In FED you can partially block as long as you provide access.

Obstruction happens before the runner gets there so waiting to see if the runner is safe or not means you aren't calling it correctly.

If you do rule obstruction then the runner is automatically safe.
