First year umpire first ejection ever

1 out runner on second. runner begins to steal third and ball is hit to third basemen like on step off the bag even with the bag. runner reaches fieler just as he is fielding and instead of running right behind to get to bag he jumps over and steps on fielders back. Out for interferance and ejection for the dangerous hurdle. This was a u12 game. Thoughts?

As you have it written I do not have an EJ but the out for interference sounds right. What ruleset are you playing under - unless you judge the contact to be malicious or with intent to injure you should not EJ for incidental contact or illegal action.

this was deemed malicious due to the fact the step on back looked intentional and not necessary since he did jump high enough to clear.

We usually play OBR modified w/ the high-school slide rule , ...this is in no way 'avoiding contact' ......I can see the 'double out' here!:cheers:

High enough does not mean far enough. Rewrite the OP so it makes sense, it will be easier to answer. Also, list the rule set, LL, Pony, Legion or something independant.

Given the age level, I'd be inclined to think there was no intent to injure. But, this is definitely a HTBT situation b/c at this age, it is better to stop this kind of play. However, calling him out might have been severe enough if not ruled as malicious. Minus intent, just call the out for INT.

I don't think this qualifies for a DP under the FPSR but I could be wrong. F5 didn't have the ball and was still in the act of fielding. The only way this would be a DP is if it was ruled intentional with the intent of breaking up a DP.

I am thinking since the play was that close to the line it was obvious to R2 that he needed to avoid F5 and he chose to try to be cool instead of avoiding contact. If the rest of this game had been going the way some of mine go at that age I have no problem with the call. FYI our travel ball is FED.
