I don't know where you're at but you could find a powder coating business in your area, Temecula powder coating is where I take my stuff they charge me $30 per mask, so when I got my forced three mask powder coated since it was a two-part it cost me $60 Edit: I just checked muskitsports.com for their information on powder coating so unless you have a local powder coating company to go to they charge $40, $18 shipping or more pending the area you live in I guess, and $60 for forced 3 mask is Fair since that's what I paid. Well I do agree that supporting a fellow umpire is good thing $58 for powder coating that includes shipping, and the $40 charge is a bit much when I can get it $30 locally

Actually just tried to order a couple things and their PayPal links on their payment page don't work and the only way to reach them is through their comments contact because your phone number does not work either which sucks Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk -

Stuff lools good, looks like some limited older gear still available Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk -
That sucks brother, I don't think that even at 5feet it would be enough to damage a mask that takes 90+mph balls/foul balls to 'damage' it though

That I wasn't aware of. Most of what I know is that there was an issue with the mask like you described, and then the company went under because of that. I know that somebody within the last couple years bottom up and that their website is now up and running again. Up until about 3 months ago the scripts and the CSS were not running correctly, and you couldn't add anything to the cart. To be honest some of their gear actually looks decent Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk -

I called "IN FIELD FLY, BATTER IS OUT!!!" fielder dropped/didn't catch the ball so no appeal plays would have happened. No one heard me because the audience of parents, the players in the dug out, and coaches were all yelling various things. However my partner was also pointing skyward and I barely heard him calling in field fly as well. My apologies for not specifying that there was no catch. Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk

Using the AllStar Cobalt, it's saved me a few gut shots, but the shoulder protection is a bit lacking... Also a sneak peak at my mobile locker room [emoji2957][emoji6] Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk -

From a friend of mine that's been empowering for 40 years, he said plus pause was top of the line for quite a while, and when they came out with their carbon fiber mask is when they took a dump. I actually have the mask, and I can understand that it would be good for catchers but for umpires it's horrible because the bars are too wide and the way the pads wrap around it you have almost no visibility on the low side Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk -

I Think I'm Turning Japanese... at Least My Feet Are
Ump242 replied to MadMax's topic in Umpire Equipment
I'm actually selling these, because I took a foul to the very front of my right shoe, I felt the entire ball hit my big toe, which never happened with my reeboks or my new balance, and my doctor said my bone was bruised for about a week and a half. Try hobbling around a little bit. It really sucked. Size 30 cm are listed as 12 us, and I'm like 12 and 1/4 so my big toe is right up against the steel toe plate and it almost felt like it wasn't even there... Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk -

Here's a couple photos of the Ssk's, love the look of them, but I need size 13 or like 32 CM I guess and they don't make anything higher than 30 cm -

Using my phone voice to text so please disregard punctuation errors... So I had two very similar situations happen, 1 at 8U and the following day 1 at 14U. Both handled differently and I think I handled the second one better. At 8U for a perfect game, there are no infield fires, no drop third, no leading off until after the pitch across the plate, home is closed to stealing unless on a bad ball, and a few other smaller key differences. So on Saturday of last week 04/09/22, with runners on first and second, the better heads a line drive to the shortstop, that immediately throws him out of first base. The first baseman then throws the ball to the third baseman who touches the bag. The second base runner gets to third Base and everybody starts leaving the field, I waited a moment, wondering why that was happening, and I say I don't have an out and I make the safe symbol that point to third Base. By this time the second base runner who had reached third base is about halfway to the mound walking back to the dugout, he turns around and returns back to third Base, as all the fielders start to run back to their posotions. The coaches from the third base I got come out at me like what do you mean he's not out? And as I was beginning to explain to them that there was no force on third base as they had gotten the runner out at first, the runner at third takes off for home and crosses the plate. Throughout the incident I had not as of yet called time. The assistant coach from the third base dugout tried to tell me that he was out of the baseline, and I told him that at this age, I realized that the boys would not know the difference between a force touch of the bag, and a tag play. He then tried to tell me that the runner was out of the baseline, and I said he returned to third Base before he took off for home. And in my opinion that did not put him out of the baseline because no one was making a play on him. He highly disagreed stormed off. I wish I had called time and then return the runners to their bases they last touched before any of the confusion ensued. Following day I have 14U for perfect game, with runners on 1st and 2nd and a pop fly is hit, I look up and then I call infield fly loudly while pointing at the sky. The runner at second took off the third, and runner on first went to second, the fielder at third base touches the base, never tagging the runner. For some reason the fielders and runners started to walk off the field, as did the runners. At this point in time I said time runners get back on your bases. As there was no tag at 3rd I did not have the third out. One of the coaches from the defensive team that slightly incensed, but I managed to calm him down and explain that that was not a force as we had called in field fly. That matter resolved itself better and faster, and I really wish I had called time and returned the runners to their bases instead of the confusion that include the day before. Just checking did I do the right thing on day two with a 14U game? And even though I did not call time the previous day for the 8-year-olds, did I handle that situation properly or could have handled it better? Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk

There was just a pair of field magistrates on ebay Saturday, I was umpiring a juniors game and with less than 2:30 the next inning started, I dropped a $120 bid, lost it for a $122.50 bud. Guessing they musts put like$130... Sigh Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk -
My first gear wasn't so terrible, but I upgraded with in a year. I started with the diamond silver big league mask, Wilson Platinum chest protector, diamond ump shins guards and new Balance low with the white"N" plate shoes I wish I'd have know about the Reebok Magistrates plate shoes, might have been easier to get a hold of 4 years ago. I love them so much, I managed to get a pair from someone that was quitting. I'm currently using the Wilson gold shin guards, and I used to have a Wilson Platinum set, but those killed my new balance 460 v3s, I do have a pair of 19 inch honigs elite shin guards, which I love but they keep shifting left or right on me, maybe they're just a little too big I'm like 17 1/2, 18 for shin guards. As right now I'm saving for empire focus which is a school in October. My wish list: Force 3 shin guards Magnesium FM4000 All-Star mask. My current setup is: Wilson titanium mask, with Wilson mesh pads (that I took off of the aluminum mask) My backup is the honig's hollow steel mask I'm currently using the All-Star Cobalt chest protector, which I love gives you a little bit of belly coverage that actually came in handy this weekend. What's nice is that the pads are all washable, they velcro onto the back of the chest protector. Currently using the Wilson gold shin guards. Though I still have a pair of 19" honigs elite, and 17" Wilson platinums as backups. Last but not least the Reebok magistrates plate shoes, and Reebok zigs as my base shoes. I still have an unused pair of New Balance 460 V1 mids (with the stitched"N" the plate) (MU460MBK -13EE) still new in the box, I just bought them from a friend of mine who forgot/found them in his closet recently. Needless to say to find what I like I've spent approximately $1500 to $2000, I've managed to sell a lot of my older gear off, I still have a bunch for sale. Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk

Unfortunately, Most clinics are in the fall. There are various awesome resources online Cbuaump.org is California baseball umpires association's website, they have PDFs for One Man two Men and three man mechanics. Which can come in handy. Umpire Classroom on YouTube is a Marietta Georgia high School association, but they have really good videos. There's a few videos where Ted Barrett explains different kinds of plays on youtube. Yet again on YouTube, look for close call sports. There is various ejection videos there from the Major leagues, but I like how he tends to explain the plausible reason as to why the player, coach or otherwise got ejected. This is nice as a lot of the videos that you'll see online only show the umpire looking like a jerk for ejecting somebody, but he tends to share the reason why or the plausible reason why someone got ejected. You can always go to mlb.com and download their current MLB rule book for free in PDF format. I don't recall the website but there are a couple different websites that will give you quizzes you can take online. What I would do if I was you, would be to search the specific kind of level of baseball that you're working whether it be pony ball Little League travel ball what rules do they follow high school or otherwise, and study up on those particular rules. Read their book 30 to 45 minutes a day, if you have enough time I would probably study the book for 1 to 2 hours. Better knowledge of the rules you have, and the better understanding have will make every single play easier for you. Now if you have a coach coming out and yelling and screaming that's a different story. But you have to let him know that you can talk to them but you will not get yelled at by them. Guessing hollow steel, but m planning on going with the magnesium soon enough... Like probably next year cause I'm saving for umpire focus on October (in Riverside California) Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk

That's actually pretty good set up there, I like it I like it a lot Now your gear last you a few years, but training lasts you a lifetime I would really recommend looking for a good clinic to go to in your area or within driving distance maybe I don't know that you can go to. You physically comfortable behind the plate secure that you're not going to get hurt is cool but knowing the rules and being mentally comfortable behind the plate is all together different thing. Post videos if you have them that'd be cool to see you work Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk

@MadMax I never thought of Ikea bags before but if you're going to go inexpensive that is actually a perfect bag. So long as you keep your stuff segregated and organized inside. I actually bought the three and two bag from Dick's when they had it at 50% off, I also have just a rolling travel bag that I used as well and it was from high Sierra I think I paid like 20 bucks at like Marshalls or TJ Maxx or Ross or something Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk

I had bought the ssk plate shoes, they were comfortable but I wear size 13s as my feet are like 12 and 1/4, and they only go up to 12 so I took a foul ball to a tow and for a while there thought I'd fractured it my doctor said it was just bruised. So hobbling around on a big toe for about a week sucked, make sure that you get one size up if you can whatever shoes you get To be honest with you New Balance are okay but reeboks if you can still find them I live and die by
