Nothing pisses me off more than guys who steal my calls. Don't take my calls, I hate the guys who blast off foul when the ball is in the dirt or hits the batter in the box, I've got it.

@noumpere I agree and like the application of the one signal approach. Especially when on the plate and working to keep the game moving.

@lawump OK, with runners on first and third in the B position, setup an additional step toward the mound? I like that and will try to incorporate tonight. Im imagining that position giving me a better angle on both bases for pick off.

@Ricka56 be an Umpire WTF does that mean... I hope you're not trying to be a douche. I assure you, I made a firm decision on the field albeit right or wrong. Plus.... had I called the balk for this motion, I would have had no issue explaining what I had and why I called it. My issue was that I had heard several interpretations on what is legal and even tonight a fellow official said, secondary sets were allowed which I've never heard. Apologies for the terrible explanation of what he was doing.

I keep it straight telling myself they can only feint to second an OBR and most youth level while they can fake to 2nd and 3rd in HS. I hope this helps

Guys, Pitchers: with runners comes set and steps off but keeps his hands together. I've heard that's a balk other guys have said that its not a balk. Too me, it seems that's it's a move associated with the pitch but than I think is it really move.... he's not moving he's standing there.

NFHS Rules - Summer HSDL - Sub Varsity Level. The pitcher brought his hands together down low, raised them about shoulder height and finally came to complete stop around about the chest area. He kind of stopped at different points however the motion fairly continuous, and he did finally stopped at the end. Did, he balk?

2 Man HS Mechanics: I'm a bit confused on when to use it In trying to understand double tag responsibilities better and proper signals/communication. I recently read that double tag signal should only be used when there's a man on 1st and 2nd and that you should inform your partner that you have the play at third if he tags. If he tags, tell your partner "I've got 3rd if he tags, I've got 3rd if he tags, should a play develop at the play make it back to home plate for play at the plate and let your partner know, I've got the plate. My question: That just seems odd to me - with a man in scoring position shouldn't you stay home. Get to the point of the plate and to grab the tag on the lead runner and move to 3BXL for the touch at 3rd. If someone could clarify for me and let me know when to use double tag signal that would be great. Thank you,

Coach - you're correct. No Ball No Block. Side note: In my opinion if F2 is skilled enough and making solid throws and F6 is laying it on him, than F6 should be able to manage a tag without hindering the runner. Either straddle the bag and lay the tag or step aside (give up the path but still move up for an early tag) letting the ball take your glove into the runner. This is strictly my opinion and means nothing as far as rule application. It's how I would coach my guys, if I coached.

Great Question Nic A few things here: 1. Youve been scolded pretty well for the cleats up advice, that's a no no. 2. It sounds too me like you had obstruction almost all amateur codes going back to 2012 or 2014 have removed imminent possession from their books. Some state clearly that you must ALREADY be in possession of the ball in order to take up a blocking position. For me, it's simple no ball no block. Mr. defensive player If the ball ain't there you shouldnt be there. It keeps everyone safe. BTW don't say these things either tell them to your partner. OBR - I noticed that you were playing OBR so yes immeniment is allowed at bases other than home but even there it's tricky and leaves a lot of ambiguity. I would clarify with the league and reaffirm at the plate meeting whether or not your playing possession or Imminent, if no one knows go with possession. As it keeps everyone safe and is an over arching responsibility. BTW - 12's playing OBR when they have 4 years of HS is ridiculous and puts you in a bad spot. Not to mention they to finish middle school. It's just dumb too me. But so are $600 bats while they only want to pay us $55 a game.
