  1. I don't drive and have never been late for a game. If you need to use public transportation to get around...plan accordingly.
  2. The Men's League here started using Twitter this year for rainouts and updates. I found it worked great. Alot of time we get called off late if it is a 6:15 start time. So saving the circle of phone calls from Team, to supervisior, to umpire can save you from travelling to a game that is rained out.
  3. At a game I had earlier in the year a lady was just getting into her car as her windshield was smashed by a foul ball. She came up to the diamond to ask for the league's info as she didn't want to put it through her insurance, as it was her 4th windshield in six months. There are alot of conventions at the park so the lady in question was dressed rather nicely which made for something nice to look at during a boring men's league game. Often during a sale for the local GM dealers they are surprisingly happy when we hit the cars saying "The body shop doesn't have enough work, so it is nice to give them some."
  4. I would never consider wearing a mouthguard while umpiring. Also there is now a belief that mouthguards aren't as helpful against concussions as first thought. http://www.mtbifacts.com/mouthguardsconcussions.html http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/ourgame/goalsassists/equipmentguy/story/2009/01/21/ourgame-mouth-guard.html
  5. The second option deals with a pitcher pitching an altered ball. Not really sure what the other two would be.
