  1. An obviously famous play but I just noticed for the first time how many positions HP goes through in this play, starts in 1BLX, goes to 3BLX, back to 1BLX, eventually to 3BL http://wapc.mlb.com/cutfour/2013/11/26/64225226/hall-of-fame-ballot-announcement-we-remember-greg-maddux-dancing-around-home-plate
  2. Here's an even more extreme delay, which included a brawl because of a disputed foul ball/home run http://youtu.be/qAhzFOBKrE8
  3. Is this just the baseball culture of the 70s making umpires reluctant to conference and overturn a call like we see so often today?
  4. At the end of the clip they say the umpire's truck said they were reviewing to see if he dropped it on the transfer, but to me, it looks like they should have reviewed the "neighborhood play" aspect of this as well. What do you guys think, will this still be an out next year? http://wapc.mlb.com/play?content_id=31215609&topic_id=26271672
  5. Yeah, it seems like DeMuth just ruled "Safe" without a "time" signal, which probably lead to some of the confusion on the field. I think it would be better to do "out" then "time" then point to Joyce then point to the runner and point to the plate emphatically. But again, I essentially have no umpiring experience (nothing I've been paid for) Just a question, why is the obstruction supposed to be pointed with the left hand?
  6. One more thing, I noticed in the replays that Joyce kind of had his head on a swivel. I assume this is because he's used to having responsibility for a ball being interfered with by a fan in the regular season 4 man rotation. But in this case, should his head have been locked in on the runner/fielder to ensure that he is able to see the whole obstruction situation. In the 6 man isn't the LF ump responsible for fan interference? I have no idea if I am right, I'm just asking for opinions...
  7. Wondering what the correct mechanic on this would be, did DeMuth get it right? Should he have unemphatically signaled "out" and then pointed to Joyce and emphatically signaled safe. Since it is type B, isn't the play supposed to be played out and then the umpire determines that he would have been safe? So shouldn't he have been out and then cite the obstruction to signal safe?
  8. Doesn't seem to be any call or really much of a reaction from either team. Have the rules been modified to only allow this at the plate? Or are they still allowed to just barrel over the ss/2b? If that's the case, why don't we see it more often...
  9. Wow, how did MLB rule this was a non-issue then, even if they use the rosin defense seems pretty clear cut that it's a violation
  10. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/lindsay-berra-old-school-catchers-masks-help-protect-from-concussions?ymd=20131014&content_id=62938052&vkey=news_mlb Interesting article on mlb.com about catchers switching masks up this year. Talks about the pros and cons of each.
  11. Do you guys think the play at the plate from game 1 will be an out or safe under IR?
  12. Any chance we'll get an official explanation from MLB on this?
  13. Sorry if this link has been posted before. The person who posted this video blames it all on the umpires. Most of the commenters side with the umpire. Your thoughts? http://youtu.be/-7YtrR33aMg
  14. Never seen an umpire do the hands on head move. Is there just no way he can correct himself and rule safe?
