Ok, so I was umpiring an 18u game last night, and something a bit strange happened. Batter had a 0-1 count on him, and squared up for a bunt. The batter made slight contact with the ball, but it went directly back into the catchers glove for a foul tip. Now I know a foul tip is usually considered a strike, however for some reason I was under the impression that if the ball is bunted it cannot be a foul tip, so in this case it would be considered a caught foul ball, thus retiring the batter. I called the batter out, and nobody argued the call... but after making it I have been thinking a lot about whether this was the right call. I checked the rulebook and found no documentation about it so Im not too sure. If anyone could help me out here that'd be cool. I feel like I made the wrong call here, as I cant find anywhere that makes a distinction between a bunt and a swing in terms of foul tip... but I'm not sure why I would even think this was the case then, lol.

as BU is it acceptable to call foul right away when you see the ball go off the player after he hits it?

In your stance, I doubt that will clack your CP in your plate stance, but if it does, you're good! FOR ME, it wouldn't work ...... See the post of my custom All-Star FM25 for my positioning....that works for me ... hmm, okay you were right. it does not clack when i'm in my stance :$ guess ill be wearing the mask without a throat guard until i can get a new one since shipping to canada is stupid for ump equiptment.

@Thunderheads Any reason why? I just recently attached the throat protector, and have only had a one or 2 hits to it so far, soft pitches that bounced off the dirt and up over the catcher in lower level games. but it is positioned so it will clack against the CP if hit.

bantam house league game (16U rec league equiv or something) kid watches a third strike knuckleball sift right down the pipe and i punch him out. (only knucleball the pitcher threw all game) as he's walking away a fairly loud "are you F*#King kidding me" and im ejecting him as his bat is being flung into the nearest fence.

lucky, shipping is overpriced as hell and takes forever from there to get to canada... but it's still the best option for me imo.

Hmm... okay. It looks like the paid version will rectify this problem. But I'll talk to my assignor first in case he can fix it. 6$ is a reasonable price to pay for that feature. And yes, i am in Canada... I don't see why you would assume a site like this would restrict itself to USA only.

No, the Batter swings, the ball hits their hands then hits the bat. Assuming this is a dead ball strike (not foul).

I just joined my first real Assosiation and have been getting assignments via Arbiter Sports. I assume there are a lot of memebers here who also use this for their assignments. I was wondering if there is a way to set up an email notification for when you are assigned a game. I have to manually check it, but would prefer an email reminder. I do recieve the 24-hour notice email bore my scheduled games, and I thought the two would be linked. I have searched the site myself but couldn't find it so I'm hoping someone can lend me a hand here.

I did a few 13-15 year old game this week and the pitchers all expected the high strike to be called for them. Like, almost at the shoulders high. The coaches were giving me flack for it... but I contiued calling it a ball.
