  1. Working a 9u game. Batter swings at a pitch and misses, the ball bounces up off the catchers glove. Then, on the backswing, the batter hits the ball down the foul line. Thank god the ball went foul, because I honestly had no idea what the correct ruling was. My instincts told me that it was a live ball, but I couldn't find anything in the rules that covered this situation. (I think 2.00 should have a definition of a batted ball)
  2. Why would the 3rd base coach argue against a balk? And at twin creeks, chirping seems to be the norm lol.
  3. Good for you!!! I'm grateful that I live in California, where there is year round baseball.

    MLB, CI ?

Why was the batter awarded first? Unless it was ball 4, it looks like a misapplication of 7.07 to me.
  5. By interpretation, on a move to 1B from the rubber the pitcher must not only throw, but he must throw directly to 1B or to a fielder who is in position to make a play on the runner at 1B. If he throws to an F3 who is not at the base nor in position to make a play on the the runner, he has balked. All codes. From the MLBUM: JM Thanks
  6. Is it an interp from MLBUM?
  7. I just got an app for my iphone called "now you make the call", which has a number of rule situations for the user to decide on. In one situation, the pitcher makes a pick off move to the first baseman, who is out of position. The app says this is a balk, but I can't find anything in 8.05 to support that. (In the 2011 edition) Does anybody have a rule citations on this? OBR please
  8. Thanks guys. I'll definitely keep all this in mind for the weekend.
  9. I have a 3 day, 5 games per day tournament coming up this weekend. Seeing as I've never done that many games at a time before, I was wondering what kind of advice you guys have about staying focused and energized during long tournaments.
  10. I think he went out of the baseline. Before the tag attempt, he was in fair territory. Then he moved to the other side of the running lane to avoid the tag. That's definitely more than 3 feet.
  11. I'm working for them this coming labor day. 5 a day, Saturday thru Monday.
  12. I got in. Yeeeaahhhhh!!!! :yippie:
  13. You guys are definitely the most serious organization that I've worked with, and hopefully will continue to work with.
  14. I evaluated with NCTB (USSSA in Northern California) this morning. I think I got in, although I won't find out until Monday or Tuesday. After the games, I told my evaluator that I knew he couldn't tell me if he'd recommend me to the UIC or not. He responded that "I would be fine" and that "we'd work together again soon". I think that probably means I'll get in, but I don't want to be too hopeful.
  15. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! : when f3's foot gets pulled off the bag
  16. Eval with USSSA/NCTB tomorrow morning. Excited.

  17. umpire_scott strikes again
  18. Probably THE worst announcing I've ever heard. They said the initial call was wrong, they said that equipment throwing isn't ejectable, they said umpires never go for help on pulled foots, they said judgement calls are protestable. What a joke.
  19. I'm going to college there with coming year. Joining SD Blues and SDCBUA.
  20. what?... swing and miss batter is hit.. it sia dead ball and no runners can advance.. it was strike 3 and there were 2 outs... so that is 3 outs..there is no D3K on a HBP we agree then
  21. Are there any umpires here from NCTB?
  22. The ball is dead on the hbp though, so he shouldn't be able to advance to first even on a d3k. (6.08b )
  23. Shouldn't this be a strike, but not an out? (6.06 c comment)
  24. This was post game, and his team was out of the tournament. I told him to go for it.
