Gerry Davis pants are pretty tough, but the catch is actually getting them. I ordered two pairs of plate pants back in January. By March, I had to cancel my order because they wouldn't be in until April.
-
I do use them. But most of the time they are more expensive than other places I use. I don't have trouble with most umpire websites I shop on, just all the other ones. The only umpire website I have ever had issues with was Gerry Davis. I had a lot of backorder issues this past season with their pants and they handled it pretty poorly. I won't use them again. Plus, I have gotten to where I hate their pants anyway.

I hate the fact that this man is from Kentucky...dammit

Thanks for the heads up on the company csabo17...will avoid. I have bad enough luck with online places. As for the look, the more I looked at them, the worse they looked. Will not be taking a chance on those...thanks guys.

Has anyone bought these? They seem like they might be cheap (beyond just the price) but at that price they might be worth a look. http://www.fifthregionofficials.com/tan-leather-replacement-facemask-pads/

The only one I have ever seen in person was when I was working as a sports writer for a little daily newspaper and I was covering a local high school. Runners on first and second, no outs of course, and the batter lines one right up the middle. The funny part was that R2 missed the hit and run sign and froze about 8 feet off the bag. R1 was rolling for second and the the second baseman was running up the middle to cover the steal. The ball damn near took him out as he caught it, stepped on second and tagged out the runner coming from first. I don't think he even knew what he did. Unassisted triple. It was so fast the base umpire only had time to say, "That's three...hustle in, hustle out!"

I use the hammer and I will never point. I just don't like the way it looks when I do it. I know lots of other umpires that use the point and they look fine, I just don't like it. My hammer is VERY different from the softball "pierce the sky" mechanic. I keep mine low, under my nose, and out in front with the back of my fist turned 45 degrees. I have been told by many that I make the hammer look GOOD.

I have used smitty pants for the last two seasons and they look the same as the day I bought them. And I wash them A LOT.

I have seen a few umpires with silvers masks and tan pads lately. I can't decide if I like it or not. What do you all think?

What did I say? Thank you slo8140

I will also add that the cp Evans was using is not the one they are selling now. I would think they would have made improvements by now. And I agree with johnnyg08...I don't think a company nowadays would put out a product that was as bad as what was described by UIC. But I guess we'll see when I get mine and take one for the team.

I thought the video could have been done a lot better. I definitely was not sold by the video. I was sold by being told that if I didn't like after a game or two I could send it back. No risk really.

The funny part is that I first heard that used on Family Guy by the hispanic maid that pops up from time to time. She was telling Brian to get outside. LOL

It might be, but the exo stuff looks a lot like plastic too.

Usually afuera (not ahuera) means out as in outside. But I have heard it used as out as in baseball too

I think those "plastic caps" you are referring to are the exo material without the neoprene covering like the rest of the CP. I don't think there is any plastic on the CP except for the buckles. I will confirm this once I get mine.

According to Jason at JEAPU, Unequal is supposed to be coming out with some shin guards pretty soon too. They would have to be pretty light weight for me to can my Diamond Feather-weights but we'll see.

Yes, those are the ones.

I played in a wood bat league years ago and they did not allow bamboo bats. They were under the heading of composite bats. But this was when bamboo was first coming out.

I concur with johnnyg08...I have the diamonds and I have had partners ask more than once if I forgot to put my shin guards on. I mostly wear plate pants, but I have had to go combo on a few triple header days and they still are virtually invisible. But be aware, if you are tall, the gap between the knee and shin caps could cause issues (on the 17" model). I am 5'9" or so and I wear the 15 inch.

You all are also comparing a bullet the size of a pen cap vs. a baseball. Small projectile moving at the speed of sound hitting a pin point directs a lot of pressure and of course will hurt like hell and knock the air out of you. But a baseball, much bigger, hits a bigger area and spreads its force out (at a slower speed of course). So if Kevlar can dissipate that, I believe it can make a baseball feel like nothing.

Well I will be the first to volunteer to take one for the team. When mine comes in, I will have a friend take my golf club/baseball tester to me (yes kylejt, I made one after reading about yours). And I will report back what I think. I have no qualms about telling the truth (especially since I have already been told I can return it if I hate it).
