  1. I'm an aweful speller also Dyslexic, I normally would have read over that but I was on the can and someone started banging on the door needing go bad and I just sent it. My bad I did apologize to him for coming off as an ass and told him I was just trying to understand his call and figured there in the locker room was a much better place than out side somewhere. He said its a rule you can not nock down a player at the plate if there is a play. I told him, the ball was by the fence and it was incidental contact. The pitcher was trying to block home and he didn't not have the ball. Anyway, I dropped it and just know he doesn't know the rules. This guy is the father on the two boys that umpire out there and him brother also. His some is the one i started this post about. He thinks he is King and there is no helping him. I'm not looking to help him because he must be happy working 9-10 age group. I'm looking to help the younger guys and find out if there looking to move up or if it's just a summer job.
  2. I have an update about Smittys at my sons games. The Assining umpire's son plays in bossier where I umpire and he is the coach. Well I had the field for one of his sons games. On my way home after the game I get a phone call from him asking me of I would fill in on Saturday for a tournament his park was having. I thought about it and Remember one of yalls posts. I said yes, do this way I could get an in with his group and try to influence some of there umpires I posable. I was in there locker room changing cloths and one of the umpires that made an awful call in one of my somes games comes walking in. In introductions I asked him about the call and got all pissed off. After a few mins I told him I would drop it we shook hands and moved on. What I found out was that it's a family thing in the 9-10 game. You have two brothers and two sons of one of the brothers and they all call ball the same way. So I'm not even going to mess with them. They must be happy umpiring 9-10 baseball. I umpire a game and my partner is a first year umpire. Good kid, willing to learn and he has a long way to go. I game him a few pointers and tried to teach him some signs. You can't over load a green umpire. The next game, I have the plate and I umpire with another guy who could be a very good umpire. He has picked up some bad habbits from his pears. The main one that kept messing me up was that he didn't know signals, he didn't have a clue that he needed to cover the Y with runners on base. I couldn't trust him to get the calls right. Now in going to work on building a relashonship and see if I can help some of these guys.
  3. I want to get a pink shirt but none of the umpires I call with have one to go with it so I have not gotten one. I may now just to push the pink on other people. Some of them say they would be caught in pink
  4. After I posted this I thought about it and I woul look like a dork. I think the letter is a great idea. A lot of players are going to the funeral. I think I may just go to the viewing. I can't get this out of my head. All the kids we see and all the kids.... I don't know. Just sad Thank you all for your posts
  5. A senior at a local HS was killed this weekend and he ran off the road an flipped him car. It was 3am prom night for Southwood HS. He was drinking, no seat belt and was partly ejected from the car. I umpired his for the last two years. Probably 8-10 games in all. He was that kid on a team that is nice to you and always very respectful. He would alway come out to first base or when he can up to the plate and ask me how I was doing. I just saw him at Taco Bell last week and we talked. He had the whole world ahead of him. My question is, I'm going to go to the funeral or the viewing (It will probably be closed casket). Should I just go and slip under the redar or should I dress in my umpire uniform? Just a question, I think in just going to go after work and slip in.
  6. I'm looking to get two new shirts and a new pair of plate pants. I have been looking at the +Pos stuff because of these posts. My partner last night had a pair of +Pos plate pants and they looked good and tht made me a little more confadent in ordering the pants (Not to crazy about the big +Pos on the front pocket tho). My question is about the shirts. Are they good quality like Honag's?
  7. Man really hate that I missed that post by +POS about trying product. That post did get me to there site those and once I get my Dougles CP paid for I may order some shirts once the reports come in on the quality of them. Keep us posted guys
  8. Why are you approaching them in the first place? Put the shoe on the other foot: how do you feel when a parent says something to you? I understand that and that's why I owe him and appology
  9. I always have problems with coaches when I wear red
  10. Sorry buddy but you are doing nothing but showing negative behavior at your child's ball game. Instead of being the loud mouth dad in the stands why not take a leadership position or mentor some of the umpires at your sons league? I know if I didn't have a experienced umpire help me when I was a volunteer than I would never have evolved into a better umpire. Your only showing the other children on your sons team and your son that it's alright to be abusive towards the umpires just because they are bad, trust me at that age most kids think all umpires are bad and do not have a proper understanding on what makes an umpire good. After all this is a brotherhood and you should at-least try to help your fellow blues. I tried to approach them calmly and got additude. There very cocky and think they know it all. I AM not going to walk up to an umpire I do not know and offer advice. That would be a waste of time. I know the head umpire out there and he thinks he is Gods gift to umpires. He has passed that along. I owe the umpire who's ass I jumped an appology, so I'm going to use that as a chance to mend the fence and try to make a relashonship that would be conducive to helping him.
  11. Ok, in High School we ware black hats so I got black bags because that looked good on one of my partners. In Dixie I was wearing a 1 Gary bag with a blue hat. I don't like the gray bag so I have been wearing my black bags. Thinking about it I'm wondering if I should have Blue cap & blue bags to go with my navy blue shirt w/ R/W/B trim and my lite blue shirt w/ R/W/B trim. If you understand that let me know what you think.
  12. I have been having a semiler problem being a well behaved parent on the sidelines. My wife has to sit next to me and tell me to be quiet. She asked me this week why I'm so picky about the umpire and I told her "Look at him, he is behind the plate with no cap, cloths are to big, he sets up on the outside corner every pitch and he is not very vocal." she told me to shut up an sit there. We have had two games ended in the second inning with 10 mins left. The umpire ended them because he felt sorry for my sons team. This happened the other night and I came unglued. I told them they were robbing the the kids and that the game would not be an official game. They told me to take it up with the President of that age group. It's going to be a long year for me at that ball park!!!
  13. What use is he, then? A 13 yr old or some random mom in the stands can make the obvious calls. It's precisely when he's needed that he flakes out?!? I told our scaduler that I requested not to work with him again and I told him that I understood if that effected the number of games I would get. Owell, better than being run over by a bus!!! I can throw myself under the bus just find with out the help of anyone else.
  14. This umpire has been umpiring for 20 years. He is one of those guys you just can't argue with because he will ask you how long you have been umping. He says he has been to Pro camp and he has all the training video's if I want to use them. That's the kind of guy, one of those you can't tell them there wrong because you have now been around for 20 years. 20 years of doing it wrong!!! Also, we did make the coach go back to the box. Had 20 First Years then. Didn't you pre game coverage? Or his he to good to pre game? We always pre-game, the thing is when there is a contraversal call he can't handle it and puts his partner. I'm not the only one he has done this to. He is notorious for this
  15. I was scared to, but I wanted people here to see that I am trying to learn and get better. This is the first time I have ever seen video of myself and I didn't even know I did some of this stuff

  17. This is a Mens wood bat league scrimmage and I'm by myself. It is the beginning of an inning and my wife is an awful camera person.
  18. Ok, I'm scared to post this because you guys can be tuff but I also want to see your comment because y'all always see things I don't see. http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l61/CajunCubsFan/392c11ec.mp4
  19. Obstruction. Thank you for the correction
  20. That was my typing and story telling fault. Abstraction = Defensive interference in this story. Sorry guys, y'all really can find anything....
  21. My last post in this was section was my post about "Out of baseline 2". Well I had the same "partner" I had in that case. This time I had the dish and he had the bases. Here is what happened. It's a very lopsided game and the home team is getting killed. There are no outs an the bases are empty. Batter runner hits a fly ball to left center. I have the fly and I'm moving tord the mound. I have a dropped fly ball and then I turn to find my "partner" and the runner. The runner was going back to first and my partner is in possition at second. The coach comes unglued about defensive interference, he is yelling at my partner to make a call. My "partner" after getting chewed on signals for me to talk. He asked me if I saw it, I say "No I had the play ball and by the time the ball hit the ground the runner was going back to first". He tells me "You should have been watching the runner so I can cross over!" (I know this isn't true because I did the same thing he did last year in Dixie Majors and got my head handed to me by a coach. I have never taken my eye off the runner when crossing over sence!) I tell him thats not true, I have the fly and he has the runner. He tells me I'm wrong, I say fine I turn and tell the coach there is no interference because no one saw it. He was pissed to say the least. He told my "partner" that if this was an important game he would have been all over him. (A little history; this coach is known for being very hard on umpires) The coach comes up to me at the third baseline on his way to third and stands next to me. He asks me "So if your partner says you have the fly and the runner what is his job on a fly ball? I tell him that's a good question and he walks away." So what do y'all think?
  22. He also needs to stop the one knee and work on the box stance.
  23. I hear what you guys are saying. I have 8 games this week 2 at Dixie, 2 HS and 4 Little League Babe Ruth. When I'm working with a newer umpire I do try to teach thim I they want to learn. The ball park where my son is playing is not known for good umpires. This kid is the brother of another umpire who thinks he should be in the Majors or something. They all have chips on there shoulders. I will help people that want to get better, but I will not look like a punk and try to help someone that thinks he already knows everything. I work a game Saturday with a kid who is on a local High School team. He is the back up catcher and he has caught for me before. He wants to learn and I did the best I could to teach. He did well even when the coachs got all over him a few times. I also tol him to learn as much as he could about umpiring because it will help him a lot when he makes varcity next year. Any umpire that thinks he knows it all is a danger to himself and others! LOL ;-)
  24. I know I starte this, it interesting to see what y'all have to say. I agree with you, the baseball politics around here are crazy. I do not umpire where my son plays because I don't like the way they do things. That being said I don't know what I was thinking putting my kid at there park. No I do, easy access to our travel paths and we only had one car so it was more convenient. When I was assigning umpire at another Dixie ball park all the umpire had to attend rules meetings, they all had to register with the Dixie Louisiana, attend one clinic and take a test. I believe in look right and knowing the mechanics. I push myself and others to be better. The assigning umpire at my sons park must not feel the same way.
  25. I DID NOT!!!! Go looking for him!!! He came over to us. I made my comments an then desided to shut up because he is a fellow umpire. I wanted to ask him "Where the hell is your hat, who the hell told you to setup behind the catcher like that and you need to study your rule book!!!"
