Thanks everyone. Worked again last night in the league, did not call that pitch a strike. Both catchers asked where it was, I said low. They never asked again. Nobody sad anything. I asked my partner after the game what he thought of hte zone, he thought I could of picked up a few more low strikes- go figure! (The way I see it, it was good enough, 1:40 minutes, 5-3 game.)

Worked an 18+ wood bat league last night. Decent ball, usually pretty competitive. This is the highest level that I work, probably only about 10 games per year. Last night was no different in that it was a one run game all night. Early in the game, I rung a kid up on a curve ball that was just below the knee... I heard about it, but it was close. First pitch to next batter, exactly the same, I strike it... More complaining. I have to acknowledge the dugout, but no need to warn at this time. I tried to call that pitch a strike all night- In the seventh, and final, inning, the home team catcher is up, trailing by a run. He gets rung up on the low curve ball.... this pitches were not in the dirt, breaking right at the knees- catchers were catching them about the mid shin. After striking out the catcher has his say, I warn him and he quiets. My question is really about what guys do when they are calling a strike that nobody seems to like. Do you adjust and decide that it is not a strike tonight or do you go with it. I went with it, trying to stay consistent- but it was certainly in my head. There probably about 6-8 of these all night. Of course any pitch that missed low and did not bounce was greeted with all kinds of chatter.... I tried to slow down, tried to focus, but every time the low strike came, it was in my head!!

I am posting from my phone. I will look this up tonight. 15-16 rec ball. OBR R2 and R3 Pitcher steps and throws to thirdbaseman in his normal position (nowhere near and not moving towards the bag) I did not balk it bc it was a mercy rule game. My partner said it was not a balk anyway, but memory tells me it is.... what do we think?

ohhhh.... no wonder I have so much trouble seeing pitches.... I will get the next one with eye holes...

I coach a JV team but have been an umpire for over fifteeen years. I was the coach in the following disaster. We were the away team playing on a field that was way too small for the level of play (5 hrs and 12 ground rule doubles). The fence is only in left field and then it is woods and brush the rest of the way. The ground rules were that if it goes in on the fly it is four, if it bounces in, two. Top of the sixth, we are down two with a man on first. The nine hitter hits a ball to left center that lands in some leaves to the left of a bush and skips into a pond. The pu (working alone since his partner did not show) signals hr after a significant delay. The hc comes out to argue and after about four minutes he calls me out asks what I believe the groundrules to be. I say in the air four, the rest two. He talks to the hc again and then.... calls the cf in and asks him. He says it bounced and the pu reverses his call... I obviously go crazy.... I actually tried to get run, but failed... I swore, called him chicken....told him he. Needed to run me so. He could write. That he asked tbhe cf in his report, but he refused. He told me if I didn't like it to. Protest (not sure what he thought I could protest?)... Thankfully we won, but HE ASKED THE CF?

This happens far more often than you would think! My general practice is AS LONG AS NO RUNNERS ATTEMPT TO ADVANCE, I call, "TIME" and change the ball.... Brush the plate and explain to the batter what could have happened. If a runner starts to advance, I impose the interference call... Batter out and return runners.... Probably followed by a good Sh$t Storm~

I am in my 14 th year and have cut back significantly; at my peak about 180, now only about 75-90... My favorite schedule is 4 weeknight singles and a double...

I was watching a jv game today. Not that the score matters, but it is second and third, 2 outs in a tie game (middle innings- 3rd or fourth). Pitcher is in wind up. Batter puts his hand up and asks for time; it was not granted... pitcher stops his wind up and pu calls balk. DC argues the batter caused the balk.... What do people think?

If my memory serves this is the same in obr; no penalty. Does this sound right?

I think we have all worked with this person- My advice is do what you do and don't worry about it- If you signal every pitch, signal every pitch... If he mirrors you great- if not; who cares? I agree with everyone else that you should be peeking to see if your partner is going to get there even if he signals. Assume he is going to cover his position, but check it out just in case... I love when my partner gives six signals before every pitch and I am wondering if he even knows what they all mean (because i usually don't). Best signal of all time is what we call Miller Time.... With two outs in the last half of the last inning, we give the "open the can" signal indicating that there is one more out and we are on our way to the bar!

I read this book a few years back- remember loving it.... Just downloaded it to my kindle for a re-read~~ I felt this was also a very good book, it was a quick read. I was able to finish it in just a couple of days. There are some very enjoyable stories to read.

Our association has an annual business meeting at which attendance is mandatory. (If you are absent you must receive the blessing of the e-board) Every two years we hold elections- the question has come up as to whether we should allow those who miss the meeting to submit an absentee ballot. We have never allowed this before, but that does not mean it is right. I am wondering if other associations allow this and what people think?
