  2. You can also look up IBOA. they are in Huntington Beach, Ca . Dick Jolly is a part of that group. They put on a weekend camp around Thanksgiving every year free of charge. MLB also puts on a camp in Compton at the MLB sports complex next to Compton JC
  3. #1 Where does the base ump get off over ruling the plate ump. ITS NOT HIS CALL #2 Does he want to accept the liability after over ruling the plate ump by changing the rules of baseball the next time the batter comes up and smashes the catcher in the head causing major or minor injury. Because all it would take is for the catcher or his parents to sue. What would your defense be..... the team paid a lot of money to play in this tournament. That defense wont go very far in a court of law, and I'm sure you will be paying a lot more money than the team paid to play. I would have walked after the game and I'm thinking maybe after he over ruled me.

    Sanity Check...

I haven't look it up yet. but I would have left Smith in the 5th spot and put Davis in the 8th spot. I beleive since Smith was in the game and batting you wouldn't move his spot in the batting order
  5. The hex pad shorts or tights will help. I took a shot wearing the hex pads. Thought I would have a bruise but never did, of course it wasn't 80mph.

    First Season

Congrats. I also just finished my first season of high here in Cali. I had a blast, some great games and a couple of blow outs. Like therefump stated I found myself watching the umpires more that the players after I started umpiring.
  7. Partners that only bring what they need for the game (base umpire only bringing base gear) you're an umpire be ready for anything that may happen. Plate guy gets hurt and can't continue base guy needs to step up but can't because "I didn't bring my Plate Gear" ALWAYS HAVE ALL YOUR GEAR WITH YOU

    Appeal Play

The DC requested time and the UIC granted it... I knew the DC had the right to appeal as long as he had a defensive player still on the field of play, but didn't know how to put the ball in play without the batter in place... thanks

    Appeal Play

It happened to a partner of mind who called me and asked for my ruling. He told me that he ruled the BR out for abandonment. I told him that BR is not out for abandonment because R3 scored to end the game, the only way BR is out is to make a proper appeal that BR missed first but since D coach call time, I didn't know how to put the ball back in play (live ball) to make the appeal

    Appeal Play

What is the proper way to appeal this? OBR ......bases loaded, 2 outs bottom of 7th (last inning) score tied . BR hits one in the gap R3 scores but BR misses first as he rounded it to go to second, BR half way to second goes to join his team for the celebration. As he is running to celebrate the 1st base coach is yelling at BR that he missed first and return... BR never retouches first. D coach hearing the 1st base coach calls "TIME" and goes to the UIC stating the runner missed first. Since time was called and the game was over what is the proper way to appeal the missed base? How do you put the ball back in play if the game is technically over to make this appeal?
  11. I made sure I stayed in the slot. But I found myself flinching a lot on balls in the dirt (I was hurting all over). It didn’t help that I had a Bronco game (plate) later that day.
  12. I had my first high school game (JV) of my career yesterday. Boy was it memorable. Bottom of the 1st, First batter (right handed), third pitch, the catcher set up on the outside corner. I’m in the slot, the pitch comes in on the inside corner catcher doesn’t move or attempt to raise his glove. WHACK, pitch hits me in the left forearm right above my wrist (½ inch welt). An inning or two later same team on defense, ball in the dirt bounces up hits me right in the stomach. Fourth inning the other team on defense, ball in the dirt Whack again right in the family jewels. Does anyone else have these fond memories of there first high school game?
  13. I don't carry a rule book either as noted above. In all-stars here in Cali they give a coach 3 mins to come up with the rule in the book or the game goes on without a protest. Coaches know the rules so well they have no problem finding the right rule to apply.LOL
  14. Johnnyspot I couldn't agree with you more about how civil the responses are on this site. It makes for a great learning experience and allows younger umpires to ask questions that to some are trivial but to younger umpires they need to know. (we were all in the same boat sometime in our careers)
  15. Check with your association. Here in Cali Navy Blue is the default color. But we can wear Black, both Lt. Blue's and Cream. Just have to match. I would get the MLB Lt Blue with Black collar and Black
