  1. It seems I am between mjr and Thunder without looking at a map...I am in Troy. email sent to you Thunder. I did look at the MHSSA website and link, but had a problem figuring which organization was where... Thanks all!
  2. Hello, I have relocated to Southeastern MI, greater Detroit area and need to find a organization or 2 for baseball. I found SMOA on the internet, but their email keeps getting bounced back to me. Anyone have any contacts or organizations? Thanks! Conan
  3. Thanks for the replies gents. I was umpiring this game, and was the PU. I did call time after the ball was back in the infield, and awarded R2 3B and batter assumed the count. I was going through my game journal I keep and came across this particular situation. Wanted some clarification on how it was handled from others. Looks like I handled it well. It was discussed in our postgame, and my BU and I felt we handled it just fine. @ John, I am sure this would happen with HS players quite frequently as FED specifies a dead ball. Then they go and play summer ball where OBR is used and just don't know that particular rule. Also, I brought this up at the swamp and was met by some disagreement by someone. But in his defense, maybe he didn't quite understand what I was saying. Thanks again!
  4. I plan on looking this one up tonight...but thought I would post here first. Situation R2, not sure on outs. Pitcher balks, batter hits the ball, line drive to right field in the gap. Batter never leaves the box I guess because the balk was called. R2 never made it to 3rd. What do you do? Don't we have a delayed dead ball? Runners didn't advance. Coaches obviously didn't know the rule as they seemed to be looking for us to determine the outcome of the play. After a minute of time, PU places R2 on 3B and batter resumes count in the box. Maybe this would be acceptable for 11u? , but how would it be handled in say leagues 16+ that play OBR rules.
  5. I saw this and was considering it until I read reviews of a fould ball bending the mask and possibly causing a concussion.
  6. I have had no issues with any of the major suppliers. Ump-Attire, Honigs, Purchase Officials and Gerry Davis. - No particular order....
  7. I had this over the weekend, best call I made. Batter did not make any effort to move, except what I judged to be intentionally moving his elbow into the pitch. Too bad it was a ball. I would have loved to call it a strike and explain it to the coach... Funny thing is, the next pitch comes inside again, and the batter flails his elbow again...
  8. I'll second this ....I just received my Polo Blue Smitty's, ...nice!
  9. Hood choice! I love the Smitty shirts I'll second this ....I just received my Polo Blue Smitty's, ...nice! Thunder, is that the Carolina Blue from Purchase Officials or the "new Powder blue from Ump-Attire? If it is the Carolina Blue, how does it match up to Honig's Polo Blue?
  10. I think it depends on WHEN you ordered last year. The ones I picked up were HUGE! Our association did a group buy from Honigs last year (June/July) and the shirts ran small. This year I ordered a Red shirt from them with the new fabric, and it is good on the bases, and not too tight with my plate gear on.

Can you elaborate on #1? Then I can talk to my accountant. And I do the same for 2 and 3...
  12. I agree with this.
  13. So, when I partner with kylejt and bikerider, I will not be wearing blue. To each their own I guess, I like the "polo" blue. It is the Navy I dislike. And as far as making the husky guys look huskier...as for me, it has no bearing on the color of shirt I am wearing. My belly and big frame makes me look husky.
  14. 'cmon now what wrong with the light blue shirts?
  15. I do the same...no issues. Gentle wash, hang dry...
  16. Looks like it, doesn't it !! Who was the guy on here that contacted Smitty about this ??? Maybe he could email his contact to confirm?? Original thread... http://umpire-empire.com/index.php/topic/3164-smitty-polo-blue/page__p__35103__hl__%2Bsmitty+%2Bshirts__fromsearch__1#entry35103 I would like some sort of confirmation before I order one....I love my Smitty shirts. However, Honig's new material is decent as well, not as stretchy, but better than their old material.
  17. btw, I have found a copy of their rules online and printed them out for my reading. My organization calls many games with this particular league and will familiarize myself with them. Live and learn, live and learn.
  18. No, playing with 8 was not discussed at the pre-game. He did show me written rule after I had called his batter out for not being in the order a second time 5th. After thinking about this last night, and recording the situation in my game journal, I feel I should have allowed the batter to be skipped with no penalty and dealt with the HC questioning why I changed my position on the rule. It will be interesting when I call these guys again in about a week.
  19. Had a weird situation today. VT has 9 players. Goes down to 8 players after one leaves the game, V HC goes bonkers. He mentioned that there was a house rule superceeding the NHSF rules that allows the player to be skipped in the batting order. I asked him if he had documentation eluding to such. He did not. HC is adament that the batter should be out. Since we are playing Fed rules per the pre-game, I enforced 4.4.1. Based on the fact that there was no supporting documentation to allow otherwise. 2 innings later, the VT head coach shows me the house rules where a batter who has left the game can be skipped. Of course his batter missing is ruled out when he comes to bat. VT coach asks why is he out? I showed you the paper that allows him to be skipped. He wanted me to change the rule, which I had enforced earlier. I did not. Needless to say he was not happy. Would you allow a rule to change when half the game is over, and you have already enforced a rule set forth at the pre-game meeting with coaches?
  20. Speaking of fun, my first two were more than any adult human being should be allowed, well except maybe four days in Vegas. Game #1 a run-rule; Game #2 won in the bottom of the seventh. I'm hooked, my quad's are paying the price working one-man for the DH, but I'm all in nonetheless. To the bad: Put my shins on the wrong shins and took off the mask with my right hand and signaled "Play" with my left too many times for my liking. (I am a bit ambidextrous, so I need to get my brain straightened out.) To the good: Didn't miss a call, corrected a coach on the IFF (runner on first only? Don't think so) and had another coach ask about the timing of inserting a courtesy runner for the catcher. In this league, it can be anytime and last batted out, so yes coach, the other team can wait if the fast guy behind the slow catcher makes an out...duh...that's a strategy and know your rules! Thanks for all the support. Ros@, apologies for addressing to the crowd as, "Hello, boys". Momma raised me better than that. Still have a lot to learn and working three in a tourney on Saturday...can't wait. The tournaments we work are an excellent place to ask questions if you have them! Ask for feedback and go from there. And also, you can post up on here. These tournaments for our client are almost every weekend, and are a lot of fun! Good luck and rest your legs, the season is only getting started!
  21. I would say on average, I call around 5 games a week. I could probably work more, but my son plays ball as well so I try and work around his schedule.
  22. I think I see two changes on the A's card....looks like he just scratched off numbers and wrote in subs number?
  23. Pretty cool! If I am not mistaken, Dan Bellino was a member in our organization, Fox Valley Blues.
  24. Welcome aboard! This site is informative and entertaining! You will have fun! And, Fox Valley Blues is an excellent choice of an organization! FVB #27 Conan
  25. FVB9, Well, as you know, I was quite "apprehensive" about having to take the Part II exam. With good reason, as it turns out, because the person who wrote at least SOME of the questions doesn't even know the rules. Which I would have thought would have been some sort of "requirement". FVBump, Of course, that would work for FVB9 because he attended the Hogwart's Umpire Academy, so he's kind of got "magical powers" as an umpire. When he claps his hands and says something, he's actually casting a "spell". (That wouldn't work for you or me.) And trust me, he doesn't put up with ANY crap in his games. I doubt they would have had the temerity to even think of trying this crap if he had been the BU. If they had, I'm sure there would have been a new pitcher before the at bat was completed. JM Points well taken FVB9 and UMPJM!
