Wishing you a speedy recovery, Mike...don't try to push to hard, it's very easy to cause yourself a setback with something like that. hope you get back out there soon
-
Definitely bring fresh socks and undershirts. You wouldn't think it'd make that big a difference but it really does. And everyone else is right; hydrate. Start the day before at the absolute latest.
-
That's a good point. We're told to automatically call an out there, unless they're going back to the bag....which, I never got the distinction, but ok.
-
"Just wait a sodding minute! You want a question that goes with the answer for 42? Well, how about what's six times seven? Or how many Vogons does it take to change a lightbulb? Here's one! How many roads must a man walk down?" Sorry. I had to watch it. :HS

It was obvious. Chest-high soft line drive, right to F6. R2 hit him and jarred him so badly the ball just glanced off his glove. Until the contact, it was going right into it. If he had tried to avoid, and the catch was made, R2 would have been halfway to third. F6 could have walked to second to complete the play.
-
I wouldn't say he intentionally interfered, but he made no attempt to avoid. I looked at it this way...his INT took an obvious DP away from the defense. Giving only one out would be rewarding the offense for interfering.

Had an 11U DH yesterday. Game two, I'm BU, R2, 1 out. Batter hits a soft line drive to F6. F6 moves in, but right before the ball hits his glove, R2 hits him and it bounces off F6's glove. I ended up giving the defense both outs, as had the players not collided, F6 would have easily made the catch and either tagged out R2 or flipped to second for the out. Was I within my rights doing that, or can I only give one out on that play?
-
that was the one I was referring to, I had it mixed up...it wasn't hit by Zobrist, it was bunted by Aybar and thrown into the Rays' bullpen. Zobrist was running from first and eventually was sent back to third, Aybar to 2nd.
-
I'm with you there. I stopped giving them time after the second time it happened. Unfortunately, they'd just continue on as if I had. I kept hoping R3 would just take off for home, but it never happened.

I hate that. And last night F2's last name was Bloom. I started seeing the wristbands my sophomore year of college, Spring '08. we mocked them unmercifully. Now I see 10U teams using them. I personally think it's overkill. My college coach would definitely be considered a strategist; for example, we had six or seven different plays for 1st and third, ranging from pick to first to throw through, and nearly a dozen different plays for bunt situations, and a simple number system kept it all straight. No one had much trouble remembering the plays. Whatever place in the number your positional number was called told you what to do. Still, I don't have a problem with it, until it starts to slow the game down because some rat is yelling "Razor 33!" with a man on third and one out when he's up by 12 and the pitcher calls time so everyone can look at their wristbands (True story). Or when a pitcher has thrown 10 straight balls and the catcher has to look at his to decipher the eight face touches the coach just sent in from the dugout and I'm thinking "If that isn't the sign for 'throw a strike,' I'm gonna be pissed."

Praise for the Smitty shirts and Purchase Officials

+1 I wear an XL for plate and bases, but it's for height...at 6'7" and around 225 lbs, a large would fit just right around the chest and stomach but be a little too short, so the XLs are perfect length but a little loose on the bases. I just have to be sure to tuck them in after the inning is over. However, with my Champion CP on, they fit great behind the plate. But, to answer BigRed's question, the XLs fit very similarly to all my XL polo shirts, particularly Under Armour and Nike golf shirts, if that helps at all. -
He scheduled you solo for a 12U game? Damn. Where were you? I worked a 10U solo and a 12U with a partner at MSA. I'm with Brian there...solo game, I'm not putting up with anything on the bases. Happy birthday Rolo hope all is well, take it easy and enjoy man

Not even me anymore. There are a few guys in our association that have it, but it's rarely worn. -

It can get pretty cold. The first few weeks this spring I had to commit that cardinal sin of wearing long sleeves under my shirt. Jacksonville is a special kind of cold all by itself...it gets into the low 20s and even the high teens with some regularity, which isn't as bad as some of the places you guys live, but the wind is never under 25 knots from November to March. My best friend in college came down from Ontario, and had to buy heavier winter coats. It's that kind of wind that just slices through you. Now that I have a little free cash from financial aid and umping, I'm in the market for a black or navy jacket and a few long-sleeved shirts. -

I felt very honored lol. To be honest, I originally wasn't going to post this, because I thought there was no way anyone would believe this all happened in one night:shrug:. We all love the nights that go by without a hitch, but I figure if something's going to go wrong, might as well cram it all in while you can. Maybe nnow I'm off the hook for awhile :rollinglaugh: -
Added to the knob, yes, but they aren't the knob...1-3-2 says the knob must be permanently fastened, not that you can't put something on the knob. I would interpret that to mean as long as the knob was permanently and securely fastened, you could stick something over the knob.

Hell, New Chest Protector is up to 14:shrug: lol

I was wondering about that too :WTF

When I first started out, my UIC told me to go to officialschoice.com and get a Navy shirt and a Powder shirt. So I did, at $25 apiece. Well, time passed, and I decided I was tired of not having black, or cream, or white to wear when other guys wanted to wear it, so I posted on here for advice and was sent to purchaseofficials.com for their sale on Smitty shirts at $20 each. I ordered black, white, and another powder first (my powder had RWB trim and it seemed like everyone else's had navy/white trim), and absolutely loved them. Light, breathable, and very true to size. So, thanks to kcfan for the heads up to that sale, and to ump 24 for steering me clear of officials choice long enough to read kcfan's advice. two weeks later I ignored my girlfriend's advice to save money and shelled out another $40 for a second navy and a cream. When it came in, they accidentally sent me navy and red. So I called, and they put my cream on the truck that afternoon, and told me to keep the red for the trouble. So thanks to purchaseofficials.com as well for getting the shirts to me quickly (three days both times, when I only paid for standard) and fixing their error with speed and courtesy. I'd suggest Smitty shirts to anyone looking for a good shirt at a cheap price. They're no Majestics or probably even Honig's, but for the value you can't beat it. And, If you're thinking of ordering anything from purchasofficials, don't hesitate. They're great. :WTF

My dad used to buy one of those 50 cent bags of sunflower seeds, hand me this thing, stand about ten feet away, and toss them to me. decent hand-eye drill, I guess, because you never knew what the hell those little bastards were gonna do, but I bet I still looked like a jackass . In my truck, I have an old wood bat I used to take BP with, and, on the advice of a guy I worked with last fall, my mask is always the last thing I put away. In his words, "That's your densest, hardest piece of equipment, and the easiest thing to swing at a mother:censored: if he's comin' at you." I like that idea :HS

I have to admit that exact quote was running through my mind . But I thought engaging him would just stir up a :censored:storm. I also was thinking of another one I read on here..."No, they changed it. He has to actually beat the throw now." And if you want to break it down, according to the Rules, the BR is entitled to first base only if he reaches it BEFORE being tagged out or thrown out. So, if ties did exist in this game, technically they'd go to the defense. :WTF
