So, MLB's manager of umpire development is from a little town about 45 minutes from here -- and my son and I have called games for their summer rec program.

Hmm . . . If my son can meet this guy . . . networking makes careers! 😋

 

Digging that "classic" article, too!  Interesting stuff on how the change from the shield to the inside chest protector played a major role in the lowering of the strike zone.
