But it is the WORLD Wooden Bat Association NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!  Teams came from all over the planet . . .  or at least a 6 hour driving radius . . .

Teams played hard through a long and grueling season to reach this accomplishment, earning their way  . . . what? Wait?  They just wrote a check to get here?  Huh.  Plastic rings, BAY-BEE!

They are playing in some of the finest, state of the art facilities  . . . what?  They overflowed into community parks?  I give up . . .

I suck at math and my brain is focused elsewhere at the moment, so help me out here …

Just for the 6 game guarantee, I have 463 teams divided by two teams in each game = 231.5 games in each set.  Call it 232.

232 games x 6 sets = 1,389 games to get the guarantee in.  That seems wrong … but this isn’t a “play every team” so maybe it is right.

1,389 x $200 per game for umpires = $277,800.

1,389 x $150 per game for umpires = $208,350

Then you move to brackets …

IF the top 64 advance into single elimination, you have 63 more games.

63 x $200 = $12,600

63 x $150 = $9,450

At the top end ($100 per ump/game, 2 umps on every game), that is less than 18% of your entry fees going to the umpires.

I have no idea … does anybody know what that percentage usually is?

And my superintendent claimed they had to raise admission prices from $5 to $8 (on the low income school, no less) because officials were demanding too much money. Oh, and I know I have mentioned we are in the lowest paying conference in the area.
