So My local league did a very nice thing

Saturday was the Local leagues opening day with opening day ceremonies and a small parade downtown, it made things feel almost normal again.

 

Well the President of the league goes thru all the announcements and then starts mentioning all the folks who do "real" work for the league and thanking them all and etc.  Very very nice.

 

Then he ends the thanking portion of the ceremony with a new special award they started.   The local UiC ,whom has "taken me under his wing", last year he told me he took all his game pay checks ( from the previous season) and cashed them and then bought balls that he donated to the league.  I never realized what that meant until the President stated. "He at the very beginning of the season bought 40 cases of balls.  CASES!  not balls, CASES of balls!

I just checked a dozen Rawlings from walmart is like 75 + $ a case of 12 

Damn.

Well they gave him a small award plaque  and informed him that due to that generous contribution along with his over a decade of umpiring plus the years of volunteering as a coach. ( He has to be somewhere close to 20 years of volunteering total )  They have started an award in his name.

No Board member can earn the award it is only able to be earned by volunteers. 

They named the award for him.  Which is really cool to me

So going forward from this year on at the beginning of every season I guess they will call out the most generous volunteer and award them with a plaque with his name on it.

Very nice and very cool to me.

Also to note.. No way no how did that come from his game pay. Not that much.. not one season anyway.  

Anyway  Way to go Rob!

really do not know.. I am pretty sure they are volunteers as well. However it maybe due to the fact they have to decide on whom gets the award? Im guessing at that
