CP Corrosion protection

I'm curious to see what can be used to prevent corrosion on metal buttons/tabs on chest protectors.  My All-Star Cobalt after one year has some white build-up on the metal tabs.  I treat it with oil/lubricant during the season and before storing away for winter, while keeping it indoors.  I've considered covering them with black fingernail polish.  Thoughts?

That’ll work. Just cover up the heads with nail polish and it should prevent oxidation (rust).
