I currently wear the NB 350 high top base shoes and I really like them but they are on their third season and are not as comfortable anymore thus I am in the market for new base shoes.

I think I can still find 350's in my size but before I order I was wondering if anyone out there had/has 350's AND the new NB 995's that just came out and can give me a comparison review either here publicly or by PM.

Thanks in advance.

Just purchased these last week after trying them on twice. First time thought they were a little stiff in the store and then went back and bit the bullet. Purchased for $48 and have been very pleased. Shoe laces a little short but very comfortable. I do competitive youth baseball and usually that involves 3 games on a Sat or Sun lasting for 5 - 6 hours hours. I noticed I did not have the foot fatigue I normally have had and found them comfortable and had good traction. Nice looking shoe, cleans up well. Very pleased and I am very particular about what I put on my feet. Good luck!:banghead:

995 are great shoes. Only thing I suggest is to get better laces. For whatever reason the umpire NB shoelaces nowhere near as good as NB regular running shoes etc. If you have a local NB store go in there, they sell their great laces.

I have some MiLB friends who get free shoes from shoe guys at spring training or MLB hand-me-downs. One in particular, in the Carolina League, out of the blue last Thursday asked me, by text message for my mailing address. I replied and then he called to tell me that he was sending me two pairs of Reeboks. I did not understand all that he said on the voicemail but I am one of few he knows with shoes small like his (9.5 to 10 D depending upon the shoe.) He sent me a pair of Field Magistrate II Mid with white stripes outlined in black with MLB logo and they are leather and a pair of Thorpe high tops with black outlined in white and NFL logo. Both have the same aggressive knubby sole and will shine up nicely.

What a great friend and what great timing. The Field Magistrate models fit very nicely and will get used tonight (weather permitting). I will try the Thorpe's the next muddy game or rough field game that I have.

Unbelievable luck.

Dave,

You Lucky dog you. I wish I had some friends like that.

Dave would you be my friend?

Let us know how the shoes work out.

last night. They were very comfortable and the aggressive knubby grip was excellent but they did attract and hold a lot of the red clay-based soil from the skinned part of the infield (lots of rain here recently). They are real leather shoes and I am now a convert to the Reebok camp of shoe lovers. I loved the sponginess and support of the shoe.

I did have the guy who sent them to me over my home twice for food (BBQ) including home made banana pudding when he was nearby working the SAL in Lexington. He was very appreciative and I guess he remembered my hospitality for which I expected nothing but friendship and the occasional bit of advice.

This same guy is the one I quoted and wrote about in an earlier award winning post about why I umpire baseball called "As for me..." As I said earlier, this guy gets it. If he doesn't make it to the show it won't be for trying and his classy demeanor. (Think of the line by Kevin Costner as Crash Davis in Bull Durham-"If you think classy, you'll be classy."

He just got promoted from low to high A ball this last week and I could not think of a more deserving guy.

If you can find Field Magistrate II shoes, I recommend them. Very well made and comfortable.
