Both of my scrimmages Saturday were cancelled.

One because the school only wanted 1 umpire to cover their Varisty & JV Scrimmages (2 total), and I was supposed to be on the bases.  My other scrimmage was cancelled due to field conditions...

It was the first games I have umpired since 7/2019.  Since I have a lot of time and money invested in football ($1,309 invested in season tickets to an NFL franchise), I don't umpire fall baseball.

Since it is a scrimmage, would you be able to go out there as a volunteer? With your assigner's permission of course.

No.  The request for only 1 umpire each for the Varsity & JV scrimmages came from the school's AD.

That sucks. In the association I work for now, we can actually contact the umpires working the game as well as our assigner and be asked to be put on the game as a volunteer (unpaid) spot. If all agree, we work 3 man (or 2 if it is a solo umpire). The assigner part is merely an insurance thing so that he puts us in as "assigned" the game.

It's to bad you guys can't do the same.
