Perhaps I should not have been so terse in my post. What I was taught, years ago, was that if there was contact between the runner and, e.g., the fielder's leg while putting a tag down, that was nothing. The contrast is with the intentional displacement of the runner by pushing him off the bag. Maybe this is no longer the guiding principle.
