In a LL game last night, a batter went to fake bunt, he drew the bat back after the pitcher let go of the ball. The tip of bat was past the checked position and I called it a strike based on what looked similar to a check swing but he went. Pitch would have been a ball if he didn't swing or bunt. Coach questioned the call. Ball or strike?

If he was pulling the bat back, how is that offering at the pitch, IMHO if he didn't offer at it, based on your comment, it should have been a ball.

He has to offer at the pitch. Putting a bat out to bunt or leaving a bat out during a bunt without attempting to strike at the ball isn't an offer either. So, without seeing it, I'd say you got this one wrong.
