Amazing lack of rules knowledge in this and last Friday's infield fly interference call. So, they are there because of balls and strikes. Probably the most important skill. Safes and outs can be taken care of by replay. Of course I am only referencing their PBUC ruling on a batter passing during a dead ball home run and their change to the rule wording on infield fly interference so maybe they changed the rules.

you can see Culbreth say "pass the runner" or similar before the review, then on the review "pass the runner before the ball went out of play" he's on the headset.
