Base runner on first -  batter hits the ball to the first baseman. First baseman touches first base for the out it first. Then throws to the second baseman. Question is:  since  the force has been removed because of the out at first, consideting the runner going from first to second, does the second baseman have to tag the runner or simply just touched base with possession of the ball?

Since the force has been removed with the out at first, the runner from first has to be tagged for the out.

You answered your own question. Tag of the runner required.
