14u rec game yesterday, starting catcher is moved to pitch (starter had dropped everything, but at least he got a glove on it), and then in a two batter sequence I take a fastball to the right forearm and a shot to the left shin guard that goes 1/4 the way back to the mound.  Hey catch, you think you might want to get a glove on that?

OK, let's revive this dead horse: the dreaded FY pitch;

About three seasons ago JV ball: I'm getting killed back there. The catcher is literally diving away from the pitch, and I'm getting clobbered. What's pi@@ing me off is that he's laughing at me. I tell him, "are you going to get these?" and he says "Hey, I'm not getting hit". Gotcha, catch.

The next three pitches are thigh-high, center of the plate. "BALL!" I lean over the catcher and say, "have I made my point?" He says, "I got it Blue", and proceeds to grab every pitch thereafter.

After the game, I find the pitcher, apologize to him and tell him what was going on. He laughs at me, and says. "I saw it all Blue. I don't blame you. It's all good"

Lordy, I had one of those last year, 14 year old linebacker waiting for football to start was the catcher. He kept setting up high and inside and I don't think he gloved but one ball. The pitcher was throwing some heat too but had little control. It was a long painful game. I'm pretty sure I looked like I was doing the chicken dance back there by the second inning.

I had a JV catcher last year apologize to me as he was introducing himself. He said it was the first game he caught in over 5 years.

Never got hit though - the pitcher was having a hard time finding the same zip code as the strike zone. It was over 40' back to the backstop. The ball would go by, the catcher would sigh, and then trot off to retrieve.

The "starting" catcher that dropped 40% of the pitches said he has been catching for 5 years.  "Yeah right.  Were you this bad the other 4 years or am I just special?" was what I was thinking.
