Pinch hit for the EH?

So this is a good one I think. OBR with the allowance of DH, EH and CRs, two hour time limits in pool play.  I'm PU and after hitting a 5th batter the HC decides to remove his F1 and brings in his EH, no problem here.  When at bat, HC asks if he can pinch hit for his current F1 (who was the EH) and then bring him back in to continue pitching.  I ultimately said no after talking it over with the TD that was there as he couldn't make up his mind about it either.  Anyone got any clarification on this or did I get it right?

I'm saying no, unless starters could re-enter, which they cannot under OBR.

In straight OBR, once a player is removed, he cannot re-enter the lineup.  The addition of an EH wouldn't really change that, though most youth baseball gives additional re-entry privileges to players to encourage participation.  In most cases, the only time a pitcher could come back in to pitch it if he remains in the game playing a different position.  There's really no way to know if you got it right without knowing the specific league or tournament rules you were playing under.

Sorry, starters were allowed to re-enter.  This was an 18u woodbat tournament.

Well then, I say Billy Extrahitter was a starter who moved from one position (EH) to another (F1) and was then subbed out.  He can re-enter like any other starter.

So if the team PH for the starting F1, would the starting F1 be allowed to re-enter to pitch?  I'd think so (absent some tournament specific rule on pitching).

 

Same thing for the EH turned pitcher.  (or the F6 turned pitcher ...)

​Thank you for this.  I think part of what made it so confusing was how the coaches were asking about it.  I don't normally have to deal with the EH so this makes it so much easier to put into perspective.

Little League's Big League division (age 15-18) specifically allows a pitcher who is pinch-hit for to resume pitching at the beginning of the next half-inning.

​Other than LL, I know of no rule preventing a re-entering player from pitching again, except FED 3-1-2 limiting an injured pitcher in some circumstances from returning to pitch.

Little League 3.03, bless its heart, prohibits pitchers removed from the mound from returning to pitch, except for Intermediate (age 11-13) and up allowing a pitcher remaining in the line-up changing positions to return to pitch once per inning (a la OBR and FED).
