In pro ball, the coach has a lot of latitude.

Keep in mind that at Fenway Park, the third base coach cannot actually see into the left field corner from his position in the coach's box. He needs to get on the line to see due to the high and tight wall; given that runners coming around third base themselves turn the corner into foul territory, the only place for the third base coach to realistically go to avoid that contact while being able to see the ball in the left field corner is toward the foul line.
