With runners on 1st and 3rd 1out. B1 bunts as the suicide squeeze is on. F5's throw to the plate is not in time to retire the R3. F2's subsequent throw to 1st hits B1 who is outside the 3 foot lane. At the time of INT, R1 has rounded 2nd.

What do you have?

Just off the top of my head since I do not have any manuals available now.

Doesn't this fall under the intervening play situation with the following result?

R3 scores, R1 gets 2B since he legally obtained it before the INT, and BR is out on INT. And, the only reason R3 and R1 get the base they legally obtained BEFORE the INT is because of the intervening play. If the BR caused INT on the initial play, then R1 and R3 would return to the base they were at the TOP and not the TOI.

I could be wrong but I think this very similar play was discussed on another board and that was the result.

You are correct. The only caveat is this, if the INT on BR is the third out, no run scores. The intervening play senario comes into play with less than 3 outs.

BT_Blue,

That is correct, same for all codes. Kind of a moot point for FED because the "default" is runners return to base achieved at TOI rather than TOP as in OBR & NCAA when the interference occurs before the BR reaches 1B.

Ok here is the correct answer....

Ruling...B1 is out.F5's play on R3 is an intervening play. Consequently the runners return to the last base legally touched at the time of interference. R1 remains at 2nd and R3 scores.
