The Central Coast Independent Umpire Association provides knowledgeable and reliable officials to Baseball/Softball Leagues, Clubs, and Tournaments in San Luis Obispo and Northern Santa Barbara counties. CCIUA assigns hundreds of games, including many tournaments, year round. Our success is based on the principle that our members hold themselves to the highest standards regarding rules knowledge, mechanics, conduct, and appearance.

This season we are busier than ever with multiple recreational league contracts in the Santa Maria, Orcutt, Nipomo, Arroyo Grande, and Los Osos areas. CCIUA is looking to add primarily beginning or experienced Baseball umpires. Games generally pay between $30 and $50-many are on time limits.

 We will be holding a membership meeting at 6:30pm on February 13 at Round Table Pizza (2508 S. Broadway) in Santa Maria for new and returning members. Food will be provided. Attendance is MANDATORY for those wishing to join the Association. Mandatory training will be scheduled before the season starts.

30-50 isn't outrageously low

HS varsity is about $75 out here so $50 for a rec game is considered pretty good. The HS association doesn't seem to really develop new umpires around here, they expect them to be semi-trained coming out of Babe Ruth. They are only active during the HS season, so that doesn't help for Fall/Winter or tournament/club/travel ball.  Our association is the only one in the area other than the HS association so we are picking up tons of games-5 new tournaments booked just last week. I worked about 140 games this last year (fit in around my full time job), many with an experienced umpire-that is something I seriously needed to advance my umpiring. I have gone from about 95% 1-man to about 40% 2-man-I even worked a 3-man game. Instead of being done umpiring in June, I worked games in every month of the year including tournaments in Sept, Oct, Nov, (Dec got rained out), Jan, and 2 scheduled for Feb. Rec/HS season starts in March. Its been a good move for me and I'm sure it will be beneficial so someone else.
