Introduction and Seeking Advice

Hello All, 

 

I've lurked around here a little bit and will continue to more and more since it's a great place. 

 

A little about me:

21 years old and have been umpiring since I finished high school, so 3 years. Each year I've gotten progressively better/more confident. I felt like last summer I developed my game management and am now much stronger in that regard.

Our assigner had me doing middle school and JV games last spring and then as school ball ended I was doing a lot of Babe Ruth.

 

I'm at college until about May 10th, so it limits how early I can start doing games. However this year, instead of spending the summer in Vermont, I'll be working in North Carolina for an internship. 

I obviously would love to keep umpiring next summer but am unsure about how to go about that. I briefly browsed the NCHSAA website and feel like it'll be tough to make their rules meeting and take their state's exam while I'm at university this spring. 

 

All and any advice would be great. Thank you everyone!

Baseball starts and ends earlier in NC than it does in VT. If NC is like Texas, the state champs will be crowned before your semester is over. You might be able to find some tournament baseball to work in the summer months. But here in the SW, July/August has few games...too damn hot.

Welcome, I live in VT for a bit and found it to be the greenest and cleanest state in the country. I still love it. I'm sure the season in NC extents well past the HS season. Someone here should be able to suggest assignors you can hook up with.

Yeah I would be more than happy to work summer ball and not school. I just enjoy umping and hope to continue. 

It's crazy that some games in April up here are postponed due to snow still.

Even though it's the middle of winter and others, like myself, are enjoying off-season skiing, you apparently have to log into your umpire-empire account once in awhile...less you get a personal email from the Chief Umpire stating your status has been de-activated and you're relegated to the inactive heap!
