FED Restriction

This is probably the closest section for this...if not please move.

 

Recently, we've been instructed to use the FED restriction rule in non-Fed games.  The other rule sets our association officiates do not have such a provision.   To my understanding, it is an attempt to keep more coaches in the game because they pay big bucks to get in there tourneys yada yada yada.   Although I have voiced my displeasure with this, I'm told I won't win this battle.  I think the context in which they (our leaders) would like to see this implemented is as an alternative to ejection.   Any time I've used it, I end up with an ejection anyways because the coach ends up coming back out to the field...its just not effective in summer ball.  IMHO.

 

Anyone have   to contribute?   I'd really like to come up with an irrefutable arguement in hopes of getting someone to see some light here.

Tournaments and leagues may adopt their own rules. If you choose to officiate their games, then you agree to use their rules. If they want to add restriction as a possible penalty for coaches à la FED, it's no skin off my nose.

 

Restriction is required by rule for a few FED offenses, but presumably that's not how they're employing it. They want you to restrict before you eject as a kind of "warning." As you say, most jackwagon coaches will run through whatever stop sign you put up for them, and get themselves run anyway. So this step might not make much difference.

 

If that's the case, why worry about it? TD's are paid to look after their clients, and coaches don't want to get run. Now, if they were proposing to substitute restriction for ejection, then I'd worry. But an extra club in my bag won't affect my golf game much.

My expoerience has been non-HS coaches don't know what a restriction means and end up continue arguing and getting tossed anyway. Because of the potential for additional penalties for HS coaches the restriction is a gift and they usually see it as such. For travel/rec leagues where there is no additional penalties I think it loses it's value. But what the heck, it's the TD's tournament and he wants it that way then he gets it that way. I restrict the coach, he keeps talking I dump him and tell the TD I restricted him and he refused to go to the dugout and I ejected him. Everybody's happy.

Personally, I like having the option of restricting...especially for that base coach with an attitude.

 

It sends a clear message to coaches and players that this type of behavior is inappropriate, it doesn't penalize the players by depriving them of their coach, PLUS (and I LOVE this one) it embarrasses the crap out of the restricted coach, almost like making him sit in the corner wearing a dunce cap.
