I was trying to figure out the proper award on this situation.

Since this was the first throw shouldn't the award have been two bases from time of pitch?  R1 to 3B, BR to 2B?

What do I have wrong?

Who threw it?

The "first throw" element only applies to an infielder. Any throw by an outfielder that goes out of play is 2 bases from the time of throw.

Normally the throw as part of the first play by an infielder is 2 bases time of pitch. However if all runners including the batter-runner have advanced one base by the time the throw is made, then that is also time of throw.

7.05(g) and its approved ruling and comments, for those of you playing along at home.

Heyward looked to be well past 2nd when F9 threw the ball. Once the throw is made, the camera switches to the behind the plate camera and Heyward is clearly on his way BACK to second. Seems to me he should have been awarded home.

Given the angles you see, I wouldn't have a problem with him being awarded home. Not that the clip goes long enough, but you'd think someone would at least ask about being awarded home, even if it was because of a low baseball-IQ mix up thinking that because he was past second when the ball went in the dugout he gets two bases. Of course, someone thinking that might also have thought he got the base he was running to plus one, and since he was going back to second he gets that plus one to third.

This exact play. Twice in a LL game. Once I adjudged the BR past second at TOT, the other he was not. Of course both went against the same team respectively. :shakehead: The fans and coaches will never understand that rule in the moment.

Hardly surprised by the fans given the number of youth umps I've heard say one plus one or something similar.  Including one who confidently sat down between innnings with parents to explain the real rule.
