Replay statistics roll down to our level????

Umpires are now 43/64 (.672 Affirmation Rate) in Instant Replay Reviews during the 2014 MLB season

 

Does anyone else forsee an issue later on where coaches who want to argue/appeal calls in HS and below use this argument??  "The pro's are only right 67% of the time....."

That would be an abuse of statistics. The "affirmation rate" applies only to the minute fraction of close plays that go to review.

If we assume that every replay is a challenge, the umpires are right twice as often as the skippers.

I expect to see that number higher by the end of the year... Umpires were perfect through like 30 in Spring Training, and at 67% now... I'd expect a high 70s-low 80s percentage to end the season.

Well seeing 90% of the challenges will be for catch/no catch calls   which will be upheld, they should be even higher than that...

Besides, 68% of people know that 119% of all statistics are made up. Before you even get to the misapplied ones!

100% of coaches that attempt that argument with me are likely to see an early end to their evening with a comfy seat on the team bus.
