I believe CR does too but I wasn't sure. Thanks for adding to the knowledge base.

CR does not prohibit head-first slides, but many assns. address this through the dreaded local rules.

CR 60ft doesn't restrict it? That's surprising. I don't see any mention of it in the rule book, regular season we have a local rule prohibiting it on 60' and 70'. I am more surprised there's no restriction in minors (machine pitch 60')

LL prohibits headfirst slides in any 60ft bases. I despise any local rule that requires a slide in any situation. It is inherently dangerous and should never be legislated to be done.

I'm totally with you.  I do NOT think a slide should be required.  There are times when sliding is much more dangerous than running into a fielder, let alone the slide itself being dangerous.

Again, I'm not very good on LL, thankfully I almost never do it!  (If I did more than 1 game a year I'd probably have to learn all their quirks better)

I understand why they try to insitute a must slide rule at the local level. In their eyes, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. But its up to the umpire, we make the call. The guys in my group refused to call it ( came close to lots of ejs because of it), this year it was taken out.

I understand what they are trying to do and it is stupid. Local rules made by fools. Simply don't allow crashing a player maliciously and it is taken care of. In the leagues my son played in I was very vocal on dumb local rules, mandatory slides and balk warnings topping the list. I told the leagues, and I am very non sue, that if they made my son slide and he got hurt sliding unnecessarily I would sue everyone on the board. I think too many people sue for stupid reasons but this is not.

While advancing.........................  But go ahead Lil' Johnny, it's ok for you to slide head first while returning and break your wrist going in that direction!

Exactly! He could run 59', change his mind and slide head first going back into the bag.... What's the freakin' difference???

It is sort of silly but LL decide how to call the difference between a dive back and a return. We all know there would be a rule nut umpire that would be calling everything illegal when sometimes the only smart way to return is head first.
